I had a Protestant challenge the Catholic interpretation of John 6 stating that, if consistently followed, would suggest that Protestants cannot come to Jesus nor attain eternal life unless they consume the Eucharist. Also, in John 6:47, Jesus states, “…he who believes has eternal life,” yet in John 6:53-54, Jesus says, “…unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” Do you have some tips on how to appropriately convey and defend the Catholic understanding of this part of John 6 to a Protestant?
