Hello everyone,
It’s not my intention to make an inflammatory first post, but I’ve been struggling with this question (and all its related aspects as well).
With the high divorce rate and our permissive society, I feel it is unreasonable to presume a potential marriage will even work. I understand this sounds depressing, but I just don’t see any rationale alternative any more, especially for people my age (29 year old male).
I am further struggling with a masturbation and porn addiction, although I’ve made some headway in the past few months.
It just seems like there’s no place to turn to for release. I have sexual urges, and I know masturbation is wrong.
Porn is wrong.
Thinking about sex is wrong.
And now, if I get married, I have a roughly 50% chance it will fail, being thus implicated in sin. Even if successful, what happens if the sex isn’t as frequent/good as I’d like? Sin, somehow I’m sure.
I apologize if I’m coming across as cynical or flippant, but I’m frustrated beyond belief. I love God and I’m very grateful for everything I have because of Him, but I feel this whole sex/mortal sin thing is a raw deal. It feels like we’re set up to fail no matter what; no matter how hard I try to resist and live a good life, I know temptation will always be lurking in the background, and should I slip up even once, and say, get hit by a bus one morning, that’s it- eternal damnation.
I know God doesn’t owe me anything, but how can He, infinitely merciful and loving, do something like that?
Why am I even here?
Someone please help!!
