Does Mt 1:24 say Mary and Joseph had sex?

hello, I watch EWTN regularly and love the teaching but I have a problem that troubles me and I cant see any way round. it is the verse in mathew 1.v.24. I mean no disrespect with this question, but the inference in this verse is so clear that it is a great hindrance to me. if you could shed light on this verse for me i would be eternally gratefull.
