Does my husband need an annulment if I want to convert?

I would like to join the church. I am married to a Catholic who was married before in the Catholic Church to a Catholic and they did not get the marriage annulled. I married my husband in a Lutheran Church and we have two kids and we are raising them catholic… I would like to join the church but the priest is telling me that my husband must first annuel his first marriage before I can become Catholic. Is this correct?
