Does nature play tricks on God

Hi all, I am a teacher (sp ed) and I have a student who is 17 and is a female. She is in a group home and 2 weeks ago this student of mine drank too much alcohol and passed out in a park.The group home found her (thank God) and rushed her to the hospital where she stayed in intensive care for 4 days. She is recovered and back to school. This young lady seems to be in the wrong body. She sags her pants like the boys, and she openly talks about girls whom she likes. She has a short spiked hair cut; she walks like a guy. I am really worried about her. She just seems miseralble. Now i know that she has multiple issues going on, but I just wonder if she is in the wrong body. I have heard before that Gay men dont want to be women they like being men.So its confusing. What does the church say about these issues. Would it be immoral if she had a sex change in the eyes of the church?

Yes, it would be immoral if she had a sex-change.

God is not subject nature. He does what He wishes and for reasons not known to us, He has placed this girl in this position. You have a wonderful opportunity to accept her as she is and to help her know that she is cared for and loved. I know that there is not a way for you to directly evangelize her, so do it indirectly. Make her feel loved and that she is important. That is about all you can do.

In Catholic thought, the higher principle regulates and controls the lower principles, as in the “soul is the form of the body”. The higher principle is the spiritual one. The highest principle is God because He is the transcendent source of all of creation, including this disturbed young girl.

The three powers of the soul are will, intellect, and passions. This is a spiritual power that can overcome mere natural inclinations such as hunger, sexual desire, or the desire to be inebriated. This higher principle can overcome the lesser principles of natural appetites and desires unless we allow error to infect our intellect, we give in to unnatural or dangerous passions and we will to act a way that gives us an apparent good contrary to true good.

God can bring His Good out of evil and is ready to forgive all. We are weak and require His Grace to work in us to overcome these passions and errors we give in to. It is when we let Him work in us that we are transformed, from the inside out, from the higher principle to the lower.

Nature can’t play tricks on God because God created and sustains nature! Nature is so complex there are bound to be events that are dysteleological, i.e. contrary to God’s purpose in creating the universe, such as natural disasters and freaks of nature. They are tricks of Chance - in the sense of purposeless coincidences. We are subject to the “thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to”…

There are also the elements of free will and evil which have to be taken into account. It is impossible for us to know precisely why individuals behave as they do but we do know that love, prayer and expertise are effective weapons against evil in all its forms!
