Does one know whether he is going to heaven?

I was reading from an Catholic priest’s website. He stated that, when one dies, the individual does not know whether he will go to heaven. Jesus stated that whoever trusts in Him will never perish but have everlasting life. It is so despairing if one cannot have confidence is the promises of God.
