Well…?
Personally, I get tired of the whole thing and need to take a break from time to time.

Sure i dont think its good for human beings to spend too much time behind a computer screen either and i still think we can learn much more from personal contact with priests or other spiritual advisors or by reading scripture… But still there’s nothing wrong with this forum every now and then

It is a great instrument in the teaching of patience. I still have much to learn. Theologically it is fantastic when the priests and deacons chime in. Otherwise it can lead to more confusion.

I wish there was more kindness, encouragement, and community. I hate to be negative (in real life 😉 but I often encounter people just bickering (wasting their time) about legal/religious details on here or demonstrating their smarts. It has generally been a time-waster for me, even though I do enjoy the mostly wholesome banter in the Casual Convo section, which has also become a time-vampire. I need to take a break.

The tough thing… it’s only words here. There is no service, love in action. 😉

I think it’s helping…especially when there are people to pray for here
Being affirmed in your faith can only help you grow too

I think it’s mostly positive. I was away from the Church for a long time (I’m talking decades), and having this forum has helped me tremendously in becoming reacquainted wih the faith. A lot of people also faithfully prayed for my mother when she was sick. I’l be forever grateful for that.

The negative comes from seeing so many posts from folks complaining about their pairish, clergy, and other parishioners. It kind of makes me wonder why these folks attend Liturgy. It’s like they’re looking for things to BMW about.

It’s a mixed bag but more often than not I find myself getting impatient at the posters on here who seem to enjoy causing division, for no real purpose other than to be ‘right’. Which is hardly edifying or helpful for spiritual development.

It can be great to discuss a wide variety of subjects. However, if you enter into the wrong thread it can cause a lot of trouble. Especially if you tick someone off. I don’t go near those bait threads. Those are where people go to get suspended. I just walk by…

It buns me out from time to time, but most definitely, it has had a positive effect on my spirituality. If you don’t know much about the faith, this is as good as any place to learn. You just have to keep in mind there are different opinions, some right some wrong. It is a great place for recommendations and resources. A safe place to bounce things off other Catholics.

There are diminishing returns to posting on a forum. It can be rewarding for awhile but having reached nearly 4k posts over the years since 2013, much of the forum has become cyclical. The same type of posts by the same kind of people with the same kind of perspectives. I have a particularly low opinion of the routine “The Catholic Church isn’t Catholic enough” threads in the Traditional section. I strongly disagree and even would say disapprove of the staff’s decision to have such a section instead of structuring the forum in a different way, but that’s life. I’m just some random dude.

I have spontaneous on-and-off frequency in posting here. Having been inactive for the past 2 months I’ve been around quite a bit lately. I don’t see my activity being sustained because again: diminishing returns. Less insights. Less interest. A long break can sometimes make a forum seem like a new place.

@Cruciferi

lol

I would watch Les Miserables again except I’d be singing the “Red and Black” song at the top of my lungs in the shower for at least the next 3 weeks. Far too addicting.

It helps me. Its nothing i dont see anyways and theres good things to learn here. Besides…its important to pray for ppl…the most important part of this forum is the prayer intentions.

Believe me, I’m still learning somedays 😅 Once that fire in the belly starts though 😬

Mostly good. For one thing it can provide a community to spiritually encourage a person and simply bring ones thought to bear on spiritual things which is always good.

I’d say that it’s helped me greatly. I talk and I learn and I get support.

Well, that’s certainly problematic. Perhaps we could form a merger.
