Where did he say that God hates a group of people?
AP I know what Pat said and I know what he said HE SAID THIS FROM GODit may not be what he was trying to say but he siad, and if he is right or wrong that was not the time to be telling people this,it is out of order…

Where does Pat Robertson say that God is cursing the Haitians?
In the video clip I saw last night, he said that in order to overthrow their French masters, the Haitians made a deal with the devil and that their island had been visited by one catastrophe after another ever since. If that’s not a curse, what is it?
Good grief folks. If you want to bash Pat Robertson, you should at least have the common decency to bash him for something he is actually saying, not for something the media is claiming he is saying.
I saw the clip with my own eyes, and I’m holding him to account for his own words, not “bashing”.

Jesus has some words that apply to this situation in Luke 13:1-5
Same book and chapter but look to verse 8 for your answer.

6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

7Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

8And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

9And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Maybe Pat just needs to be Dunged.

You are choosing to interpret his words in the worst possible light.

For starters there is nothing in the video clip where Pat is claiming that God is doing the cursing.

Please cite the specific quote where Pat said this was FROM GOD. I did not hear or read that.

As I search, I cannot find his exact statement out of his mouth (or from his pen/computer). I owe him an apology for that one
You are a good man (or woman).

Not that Pat particularly cares what one anonymous poster over the internet cares about him.

It seems that anytime a natural disaster occurs, Pat attributes it to God’s judgement. Based on the OT judgement, He may be right.

I don’t think he thinks he is God as the “Title” of this thread indicates.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case he was very clear. If we both agree that my summary above is accurate, how else can I interpret it?

What other being could be responsible for the natural and man-made disasters that have befallen Haiti? Unless Pat is a Manichean and not a Christian, then the answer has to be God.

You say you’re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don’t have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don’t have to be nice to them.
– Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, January 14, 1991

Spirit of the Antichrist? Wow. Amatuer Pianist, you seem to be worried about who is considered a christian and who is not, what do you think about that comment?

Anyway, how can he believe that a pact with the devil can be made?
Let’s say it can be done.

Then, these curses that followed, God would have permitted Satan to do.

Can anyone really say that an earthquake (an explainable natural event) happened because of this so called pact that was made?

Don’t you think it’s superstitious to believe in pacts with Satan? Do you believe Satan gave them freedom as a result of the pact?

Pat must believe all that.

Umm…link?

For the record, here is a statement put out by CBN concerning his comments:
UPDATE: CBN spokesman Chris Roslan issued a statement Regarding Pat Robertson’s Comments on Haiti, saying “On today’s The 700 Club, during a segment about the devastation, suffering and humanitarian effort that is needed in Haiti, Dr. Robertson also spoke about Haiti’s history**. His comments were based on the widely-discussed 1791 slave rebellion led by Boukman Dutty at Bois Caiman, where the slaves allegedly made a famous pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the French.** This history, combined with the horrible state of the country,** has led countless scholars and religious figures over the centuries to believe the country is cursed.** Dr. Robertson never stated that the earthquake was God’s wrath. If you watch the entire video segment, Dr. Robertson’s compassion for the people of Haiti is clear. He called for prayer for them. His humanitarian arm has been working to help thousands of people in Haiti over the last year, and they are currently launching a major relief and recovery effort to help the victims of this disaster. They have sent a shipment of millions of dollars worth of medications that is now in Haiti, and their disaster team leaders are expected to arrive tomorrow and begin operations to ease the suffering.”.
Emphasis mine.

Where is his source for this info? Who are these scholars and religious figures? If he is going to make such a serious allegation against those people he better be willing to back up his information. Otherwise this is nothing more than slander against a people who are already down.

I see nowhere in what Pat says that implies he holds God responsible. I will have to review what he said again, but I think his answer implies that he holds satan responsible.

I made it clear that I am only addressing what Pat Robertson said in 2010, not 1991.

Let us say Pat does believe all that. Then you can have a nice theological discussion on whether there is some substance behind what Pat is saying or whether he is wrong.

That is not my dog in this thread.

I am specifically defending Pat from the accusations that he believes that God did this when nowhere did he say that God did it. I think he believes that satan did this and that God did not prevent it. That seems to be a reading that gives Pat the benefit of the doubt.

And by extension I:will defend Pat from some of the “way-over-the-top” statements some have made against him.

Apparently, he believes in the power of voodoo. That’s the “pact” he is referring to right?

Obviously he did not cite them in this interview.

But to be fair, in one minute interviews you are not going to cite the sources you use.

That having been said I have no interest in defending Pat Robertson against charges he got his facts wrong. That would be a fair argument to make. This may or may not be an urban legend. And perhaps Pat’s sources are just wrong.

Getting facts wrong does not mean you are an idiot, a disgrace to your religion, and a disgrace to the human race. Lets show some proportion and charity here.

Pat Robertson is a smug self-serving man. I imagine he is very rich from all the people who are taken in by him. I can’t stand that guy.

Just to clarify (you can google this and check out the statements on youtube for yourselves, as you can imagine the statements are everywhere) Robertson said Haiti was destroyed because they made a pact with the devil in order to expel the French. Arguably he blames the devil and not god (although I’m really not sure); but the insensitivity, cruelty, and plain stupidity of his remarks are astounding. To think this blithering idiot could have been president is pretty scary.

I didn’t bother to google whether there’s really any credence to this alleged legend that the Haitians made a pact with the devil (whom I think is an imaginary character anyway, but I digress). Nonetheless, it stuns me to think a guy who claims to be intelligent (I assume) believes individuals can make pacts with cosmic beings that will impact future generations of people (who probably have no direct relationship with them) infinitely into the future. Under this dribbling idiots logic I suppose I could make a pact with the devil that will saddle America infinitely into the future (and I suppose his grandson will blame my pact with the devil for the next hurricane in Louisiana or Florida).

I can’t express in words how big of an idiot I think Pat Robertson is, there’s no words (I can’t even think of a profane word that describes how stupid the guy is). But it doesn’t bother me so much that there’s a few idiots in the world (if it did I’d be bothered constantly), what bothers me is that there’s thousands, maybe hudreds of thousands (I shutter to think millions) who send this idiot (whose worth as much as a billion dollars) their money and fund his little hate machine (and the irony on top of the cake is it’s all in the name of a loving Jesus).

Anyone who supports this idiot, or defends his drool, is likewise an idiot.

Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, what the one who was smoking meth and screwing his gay lover on the side … if all these kroons were piled up and tossed overboard in the middle of the pacific, the south could only get smarter

Perhaps. I don’t know. Seems plausible.

So?

That is really only saying that if you go off praying to satan, maybe God will allow you to get what you asked for. I don’t see what is so “evil” about this idea.

He’s a two bit crook playing the Jesus fiddle (and raking in a billion). This man doesn’t deserve a drop of deference or respect. People like him are the ugly bottom belly of our country.
