Of course not, but I need help! I can’t find where Paul says he saves souls (in a secondary sense, of course)
Are there any other places where we are told that our participation saves others?

I think what you are looking for can be found in the following verses.

Col 1:24-29
1 Tim 2:1-4

There are more passages that speak of what God can do through us to help others come to Christ, but I think that saying we save others is poor wording. God saves, we can just show them how to come to Christ and help Christ work in them for their salvation. God helps us suffer for others as Colossians states and pray for others as 1 Timothy states, but we don’t save others directly. Only God saves.

Oh, absolutely! I would never say otherwise! I’m in a discussion with others who deny the Communion of Saints, so I’m trying to say how we all participate together, as a family. I could have sworn there were a few places where Paul says something along the lines of “that I might save you”, “that you might be saved through me”, or some such thing.

How about 1 Cor 9:19-24?
Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew to win over Jews; to those under the law I became like one under the law–though I myself am not under the law–to win over those under the law. To those outside the law I became like one outside the law–though I am not outside God’s law but within the law of Christ–to win over those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it. Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win.

1 Timothy 4:16 “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”
**
1 Corinthians 10:33** “just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”

Romans 11:14 “if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.”

How about James and Jude?

**James 5:20 **“let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”

Jude 1:23 “but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”

no more than the baptismal waters do
Since “water and the word” (Baptism) spiritually regenerated me and made me a new creation in Christ, then I say that the waters of Baptism definitely saved me by the power of God. 😃

Since you either do not know and/or do not understand and/or refuse to acknowledge the fact that Jesus’ gospel was passed down through His Church by both oral traditions and written traditions, I will explain why you have such a hard time understanding this teaching on baptism.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 “Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.” [1 Corinthians 11:2]

Catholics understand about baptism because they were taught the whole truth; both the oral traditions about Baptism and the Scripture verses which support the Church’s teaching and so they understand the whole baptism “picture.” Non-Catholics who attempt to understand Baptism strictly by perusing the Epistles are going to have a difficult time. It is like doing a “connect the dot” picture. The problem is that they are not able to connect all the dots since some necessary dots do not seem to be a necessary part of the overall picture. So, I will try to explain these “dots” more clearly so that an accurate “picture” of baptism is shown. 😃

To become a member of Christ’s Church (in order to become His disciples) we must be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. First, Jesus commands His Apostles and disciples to make people (from all nations) His disciples and then He tells them how to do it! Which is by baptizing them in the name of the Holy Trinity.

Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

Ephesians 5:26 “that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,”

Acts 22:16 “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”

The Sacrament of Baptism sanctifies us. It washes away our sins. The Lord is God.

This “washing of water by the word” is exactly what Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19!

Titus 3:5 “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,”

The Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier. Jesus is the Redeemer and God the Father is the Creator. They all work together to do all things, but They are sometimes distinguished by these characteristics. However, only Jesus as Man died for us since Spirits cannot die.

Galatians 6:15 “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Romans 6:3 “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?”

Circumcision was the entrance into the Old Covenant. Baptism is the entrance into the New Covenant. The waters of Baptism spiritually regenerate us and this makes us into new creations and we become members of Christ’s Church. The merits of Jesus’ sacrifice/death are given to us/our souls when we are baptized in the Sacrament of Baptism and this Baptism washes away our sins and saves us. Baptism sanctifies us.

1 Corinthians 6:11 “But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

This verse explains Baptism. We are washed with water, we were sanctified by it, and we are justified in the name of God/Jesus and we are sanctified/justified/saved by the Spirit of our God.

It is helpful to connect all the dots! 🙂 You will get a clearer picture of Baptism! Baptism saves us by the power of God. He applies the merits of Jesus’ sacrifice to our souls by/through the waters of Baptism.

Truth is truth and it matters not who believes it. Truth is truth even if no one believes it!

water saved you?

Jesus saved me.

there are many references to who does the saving, oh i will get back with you all.

as long as you have faith as small as mustard seed but not in the water.

God bless.

Mt. 28: 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” *

🤦

Please go back to the forum you started on water baptism… Are you not understanding the Catholic position?

Or do you simply not want to understand it?

Time and time again we keep telling you that Christ saves us.

Yet you continue to insist that we believe water does by itself…

Also please go back to the other forum for Scriptural references…

Jesus saved me/healed my soul using water as the means to do it just as He used spittle to heal the blind man’s eyes. [Mark 8:22-25] Jesus sometimes uses natural materials in order to fulfill His purposes. Jesus applied the merits of His Blood Sacrifice to my soul using the water of Baptism. This is His own choice. It is His power manifested through His choices of natural substances.

I don’t believe that you were literally covered with Jesus’ Blood in order for Him to cover for your sins so that you could be saved. How do you think that Jesus actually literally cleanses our souls from Adam’s sin which we all inherited from him?

Yet, we are saved by the Blood of Christ.

Hebrews 9:14 “how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

1 Peter 1:2 “elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:”

This sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus is done through the sprinkling of Baptismal waters. Baptism sanctifies us because it applies the merits of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to our souls.

Baptism now saves us.

1 Peter 3:21 “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,”

A bath is a type of cleansing used to clean dirt and sweat from the flesh. Baptism is the type of cleansing used to clean sins (both original sin and personal sins) from the soul. This cleansing of our souls by Baptism gives us a good conscience toward God. In other words, Baptism sanctifies us and makes us holy and this holiness remains until/unless we sin grievous sins which will cause the Holy Spirit to leave the temples of our souls. We remain sanctified only while the Holy Spirit is living within our souls/hearts/temples. [1 Corinthians 3:16-18]

Since you are unable to understand these truths about water baptism, perhaps you should just let it rest and move on to another forum where people will agree with your beliefs instead of continuing to post here. I am sure there are many out there who share your beliefs, but you will not find them on a Catholic forum. 🙂 We know the truth and we cannot be dissuaded from it by persons such as yourself.

👍👍👍

Another one

2 Corinthians 1:6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer;

***Dear friends in Christ,

Paul is clearly NOT our Redeemer!

That said, he nevertheless has a key role in the process of our Salvation, by virtue of the FACT that he authored more than half the books of the New Testamant, clearly spelling out for us Christ teaching and what is necessary for our personal Salvation, Paul is to be considered a factor in our Salvation. 👍

Love and prayers,***

The Greek word for “save,” though consistently translated as the same word, has a variety of semantic nuances that cover a lot of ground. See if you can muck around on this forum a bit ibiblio.org/bgreek/test-archives/html4/1997-05/18568.html and find anything useful.

no more than the baptismal waters do
It does seem normal practice that the scripture records actual conversions (which require belief) using Water Baptism. Additionally, early Church Fathers also confirmed this. The Didache even talks about “sprinkling” water over the person’s head three times…
