And it is so easy. All he has to do is convince the husband or wife that there is something better “out there”, usually the husband, and usually through either greed or lust. That is why pornography is so insidious.
Ok… I gotta say it. Pornography is just nasty. Total agreement. However, I don’t know any broken marriages over it.

I know, “he/she was a drunk.”, “he won’t get off his bum and get a job.”, “drug usage.”, “cheating, which COULD be related to porn… but given the appearance of the other person… I’m gonna say nah… they don’t fit the playboy bills.”

Pornography def. has a strong hold… I think it’ equal opportunity with these probs.

Don’t look at the actual pornography - look at the culture of pornography - as a man or woman continues to watch pornography (in this case I will say man because I am a woman and it easier for me to place myself in that frame of reference so please understand I am not blaming either gender) he will soon want things that he sees such as oral sex with finishing places that God did not intend - mutual masturbation, etc. All things not acceptable in a Catholic marriage. As the wife states that she wishes to keep the marriage covenant the man looks elsewhere for a woman that will do these things. As he bores of these things the experimentation gets worse and the quality of the woman gets a lot lower. Meaning it is not the attractiveness of the woman - it is what she is willing to do in the bedroom. Hate to tell you - what goes on in a porn video has no place in a Catholic marriage (well 95% of it.) I laugh because as I write this my xh took all his porn and left every single one of his daughters possesions in the home - tell me porn does not affect a marriage.

I would not say that it doesn’t negatively affect a marriage. And well, I just got a dose of my "know it all opinion.’ Within MINUTES of writing the above, a friend called to discuss an issue with her DH… AND PORN! Color me clueless! I just haven’t witnessed this MUCH… but obviously that doesn’t mean it’s not an issue. Sorry to sound as though I KNOW otherwise. I do not… just a personal observation… blown out of the water today…

the devil attacks everything. He tries to make everything worse, but most people take it as being ‘cool’ or fun. Like cheating, or doing drugs, or drinking, or having sex out of wed-lock.

But we must also be careful because Satan loves the “holier than thou” attitude just as much as the sins listed.

Constant examination of conscience (including examining one’s intentions) is a must. Most in our society are too busy and fill their lives with so much noise that this examination is a near impossibility. I should know, I suffer greatly from a mind that seems to never quiet.

I think C.S. Lewis had a lot of insignts into how the evil one operates in The Screwtape Letters.

In his book, what Satan wants is prey. He wants power, to dominate other souls. In order to do this, he looks for opportunities to separate the soul from God. If God has the soul, after all, then Satan can’t have it.

Of course, that means keeping the soul from sources of grace, but if that can’t be achieved, then the source of grace needs to be sterilized. Entice the person into admiring themselves for being religious. Discourage them from prayer, but if you can’t manage that, then encourage them to pray in ways that are self-congratulatory and as far removed from the actual work of loving God and neighbor as possible. As much as possible, make their sins real and their virtues imaginary. And whatever you do, don’t let them wake up to their position.

If it is possible to warp many by tempting but one or a few, of course that is the most efficient. He also makes that point very clear.

It’s a very cleverly-written book, and it is full of insights. I highly recommend it.

I know of several marriages that been destroyed or almost destroyed through the evils of pornography. So yes, it DOES happen. When you care more for the fantasy instead of the reality of human sexuality, I would call that “destroying and/or interfering with a marriage.”

We call that the “Grass Is Greener” syndrome.👍

Agreed… see post #23… THX!

Only every day in one endless barrage of temptation and various other tricks of insidious evil…😛

It’s a miracle anyone stays married, really. We’re constantly told it’s okay to give up and find someone new–or not even bother to marry in the first place (why buy the cow…). A good marriage means shoring up cracks as they occur every moment of every day. And who makes the cracks? Well, we make some of them, but I’m convinced that evil, Satan as some would say, is often at the root of it all.
