Does Satan attack and abuse people who are growing in holiness?

I get the common consensus from people that the answer is “yes.”

I went to confession recently (to confess my sin of apostasy) and have been attending daily mass and saying the rosary more and more. Out of nowhere I keep get angry, despairing thoughts of hatred against my family and my self often with the theme of “if only if only.”

IS this the case?

Possibly. It’s also possible that as you tear away the layers of sin, you’re starting to unearth some issues that have been festering under the surface for awhile.

Either way, I would say keep praying, and make confession a regular (like, at least once a month) thing. Bring these issues to the confessional.

Good advice.

Often times, yes.

The answer is yes. Satan will always try some way of interfering with our relationship with God and especially if we are trying to get closer to God. This is his way of trying to upset you and make you stop praying. This happens to me too, infact as recent as last night when I was trying to pray the rosary…a song in the charts at the moment kept coming into my head and to be honest the lyrics to this song aren’t very nice. At times I hear curses while I pray the rosary and terrible thoughts. The best thing to do is ignore it and continue praying. As upsetting as some of those thought may be it isn’t you thinking those things and God knows this. A priest once said to me let an attack from satan go in one ear and out the other…wise words.

Oh yes and Ive heard it said that when you start to realize you are not having any kind of ‘evil influence’ in your life in one way or another, that is when you should really worry! ( if you are already firmly on the wrong path, why would satan need to bother messing with your life?)

Yes, especially if satan knows you are struggling with holiness. He may leave you alone if you are solid in your holiness & prey on easier targets.

Yes, it’s…The World,The Flesh and The Devil…VS…Faith, Hope and Charity.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Ephesians 6:16

When bad, unwanted thoughts come to my mind, I pray… for the people I am suddenly re-angered with, for the situation which is presented, for those whom I have hurt by my old sins.

Respinding to bad thoughts by praying definitely diminishes their returns, altho at a later date, they try to sneak back in and I go through the process again!
