Hey, I am a Catholic, and I would like to pose some question about prayer life here.

Recently, I have been facing tremendous issues on my personal life. For instance, my workload has increased dramatically and it went to the verge of me being unable to cope with the workload. And then, I was struck with depression from no where. Despite prayers and asking God to strengthen me, there are times where I felt that my prayer life was so dry, and I even had doubts about God being with me.

One day, a friend of mine spoke to me and said that perhaps it might be a test of the Satan to challenge me.

I am still very new to the faith (I accepted the faith in 2014), and this has been a very extreme challenge I am undertaking. I wonder if there’s any relevance to what my friend said about my current situation right now?

Replies and prayers welcome.

Of course satan is somewhere in the mix.

But don’t forget that the key is to pray for faith, not necessarily for obstacles to be removed.

Many people consistently pray, basically, for all of their suffering to be either removed or to be drastically reduced. I’m sorry, but that misses the point of the cross, and we should avoid that at all costs. You’ll see many threads on here by people who have clearly been broken by their struggles. If they accepted their cross, how much utter desolation they would sow in satan’s plans.

Pray for faith so that you can develop patience, which is the virtue of suffering well and with a sincere desire to do God’s will.

I would suggest asking for the Queen of the Angels for help. Entrust your care to her Immaculate Heart. Our Lady NEVER neglects any of her children. I will also pray that the same holy angel that comforted Christ during his agony in the garden will comfort you now.

Qwerty1985: When it rains, it pours! I think you will find that everybody is “tested” and the closer you get to holiness, the more you will be tested. You will feel like ignoring or leaving your faith. Don’t. You can also see it as a kind of “spiritual friction” that increases with your spiritual advancement. But once you’ve got a good movement going on, you’ll be able to overcome it.

Truth is that 99% of us get some movement going, then stop, then get some impulse, then stop again- But the secret is in being determined. Never give up. Never let the devil make you think you won’t be able to make it. Or, one of his favorite lies… “Just go ahead and commit that sin you always do- you know it’s only a matter of time before you do anyway… besides everything is so stressful now… It’s no big deal! Just do it!”…

This is an illogical, emotional and circular argument, but it can get you if you’re feeling down. Don’t let it. And if you do, pick yourself back up, go to confession and start anew.- Get moving again spiritually- you’ll eventually reach that finish line, with the powerful grace that God has given you!

A full consultation with a mental health professional is in order. Medications can help with most forms of depression. Talk therapy can help you cope until you’re in remission.

God bless,

Lisa
