Hello,

I was at mass on Saturday Vigil and All saints day falls on Sunday this yesr. Does The Saturday night vigil mass fulfill All Saints Day obligation or do i go to Sunday mass too. I am asking because the priest said at the vigil we are celebrating all Saints day.

Thanks and God bless.

You fulfill your obligation to attend Mass by attending either on the day itself or the evening before. This is true for Sunday Masses when you can attend on Saturday evening as well as holy days of obligation that may fall during the week.

OP, I think you should trust your priest to know what he is doing.

He is highly unlikely to make a huge mistake like that, don’t you think?

Yes, the Saturday evening* Mass fulfills your obligation to assist at Mass today – Why would it not?

Had you not gone to the Saturday evening* Mass, would you need to attend Mass twice today, once for All Saints Day and once for Sunday? No, you would not. There is one obligation to assist at Mass that needs to be fulfilled, and you have done so,

(* Strictly speaking, you did not attend a *Vigil *Mass last evening – It was a Saturday evening Mass and it (properly) used the setting and readings for today, The Solemnity of All Saints.)

Yes. I went to mass at 4 pm and the presiding priest said that normally we would have the 31st Sunday in ordinary time, but since All Saints was a Sunday this year, masses this weekend are All Saints readings.
