Does saying an Act of Contrition make it okay to receive the Holy Eucharist before going to Confession?

I have confessed to the priest in an email
that I consider him “in persona Christi” but
have been avoiding my usual daily mass
b/c I have been watching naughty videos
on the internet(not porn) and am afraid of
facing him, I don’t know how to confess
this to him b/c he is quite strict, I HAVE
confessed my watching the videos but
have not confessed missing daily mass,
should I take communion this Friday??
GLam, did you realise that you have also started a separate thread with this same post?

Thanks everyone for the advice. Didn’t realize it would turn this controversial so I found a parish that has evening mass on Tuesday and went early and asked the priest to make a confession. So now I am good. Thanks everyone for the answers and for scaring me into questioning what my own priest told me!

What comes across to me on this and other threads is how difficult the priest’s job is. They deal with people with complex moral dilemmas, sometimes with weak religious formation so they either over estimate or under estimate the severity of the action, with people badly misinformed by the secular culture.

Sin was around since the Garden, but never before has there been so much misinformation about religion and morality, with so much hostility towards the gospel from most respected institutions of Western society. And remember priests are doing it in much smaller numbers than when they were growing up, which means they are hearing confessions when they themselves are stressed out, sick, dead tired, etc.

Prayers for them are called for.

Please, don’t let these guys get to you.

Your priest knows you. He is the primary person entrusted with care for your soul.

😦 My experience on this forum has been that if you ask “was this a mortal sin?” you will receive a “yes, better safe than sorry, go to confession NOW!” response. Please, rely on your priest – WHO KNOWS YOU – and not the internet full of strangers.
