Does Scripture discuss 3 types of salvation?

I have been having a discussion with a protestant friend who says that scripture discusses 3 types of salvation. Only one deals with everlasting life. I was told there is also a Catholic perspective of this in a book called “The Salvation Controversy.” Any thoughts or comments?

Well there would be three basic tenses to the verb: saved
past: as in our baptism
present: as in our ongoing sanctification
future: as in our final salvation after the last judgment.
As Catholics we understand salvation and justification in all these senses so it is an ongoing process instead of over and done.

Probably however this persons question may refer to salvation in terms of a healing in the N.T. or deliverance from an invading army in the O.T. Both of these can be understood as a type or symbol of spiritual salvation from sin.

James Akin wrote “The Salvation Controversy” It deals with the past, present, and future salvation (a process that the Church teaches) which so confounds our “Once Saved Always Saved” Brothers.

But Paul also used “saved” in three different contexts.

1. The instant of being saved, baptism.
2. Saving someone’s temporal life, like saving someone from drowning.
3. The ultimate Salvation, or the process that ends in our entering heaven.

Yes, Salvation is past, present and fulture.

He could be dividing salvation of Soul, Spirit and Body.

Body being the general ressurrection.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Some use this text to claim that our sin nature is cut away from our soul. Basically, in this view the sin nature, flesh is viewed as being part of our spirit which is cleansed after death.

Matt. 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13 - Jesus taught that we must endure to the very end to be saved. Salvation is a past, present and future event (not a one-time event at an altar call).

Rom. 8:24 - for in this hope we were saved

2 Cor. 2:15 - for we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who **are being **saved.

1 Cor. 3:15 - he **will be **saved, but only as through fire.

There are in fact three types of salvation, or three master covenants between God and man. These are the Faith Ransom Covenant (FRC) mediated by Melchizedek, the Church Ransom Covenant (CRC) mediated by Gabriel, and the Angelic Ransom Covenant (ARC) mediated by Michael.

The first, the FRC covers all of those who have the faith of Abraham and those who have the ‘law unto themselves” or a circumcision of the heart and never join a true church.

The second, the CRC covers all of those who are baptized into a true church of a presence. They have a water baptism but not necessarily a spirit baptism.

The third, the ARC covers all of those who have a spirit baptism. These must eventually find their way to a true church to be sealed.

Thanks everone. I have to get that book. The reason I was confused with what my friend was saying is that he was saying man is 3 part body, soul, and spirit. He said that there is a different salvation for each. He further stated that once a person first believes, they are saved as far as everlasting life goes. Once saved always saved. My question to him is why would anyone need 2 other forms of salvation if they had already received everlastinf life.

However there is an age of time inbetween now and eternity for mankind, specially for those that possess everlasting life. He also said that there is a 1,000-year period where Christ will rule this earth with a rod of iron. And the “salvation” that is dealt with after one receives everlasting life is whether or not one is worthy to enter the kingdom of the heavens. He said that this is the inheritance. and that we can either rule and reign with Christ in His kingdoms are we can be cast into the outer darkness where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. After this explanation I was even more lost.

I’m not surprised you were more confussed. There is no evidence any of that will take place on earth. But, that’s a subject that deserves it’s own thread.
