Sorry if this is not in the right place; I just assumed this should go here because it is about sin.
I read in a prayer that thorns are placed in Mary’s Heart by our ingratitude and blasphemies. So, does it offend Mary when we sin? Does it offend the saints? Or does it just hurt them to see us offend God?
Thank you

When you see a friend or family member do something foolish, are you offended or saddened?

I doubt that offend is the right word to use. I would suggest sadden. I suggets that sin offends God and saddens the community of saints.

I am sure that in a way it does hurt Mary and the saints, but in a different way than we would understand it, because saints/ Mary cannot feel any more pain, suffering, or sorrow in Heaven because they already experience the fullness of God’s presence in the beatific vision. I think it does offend/ sadden the saints/ angels in Heaven in a certain way without reducing the joy of the community in Heaven because why else would we need to make reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary? Hope this helped 🙂

**The Five Sins Against Our Lady

**An edited version of Guido Del Rose’s Article: “Fatima: The Five Sins”

Mr. Del Rose stresses that Our Lady asked for the conversion of sinners and reparation made for sins that offend her Immaculate Heart, along with the consecration of Russia.

"My daughter, the motive is simple: there are five ways in which people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
  1. the blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception,
  2. against her virginity,
  3. against the Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time to accept her as the Mother of all mankind,
  4. those who try publicly to implant in the children’s hearts indifference, contempt, and even hatred against this Immaculate Mother, and
  5. those who insult her directly in her sacred images.

In the shortest possible answer to your specific question - YES.
Those who are in heaven, are in complete conformance to the Will of God. As such they are “offended” by whatever offends God.

Someone mentioned the term “saddened” as an alternative and I think that this is a good point. I say this because the Greek terms for “Sin”, Hamartano and Paraptoma, includes, not just outright “offenses” but “errors” as well. Meanings include:
Hamartano:
  1. to be without a share in
  2. to miss the mark
  3. to err, be mistaken
  4. to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honour, to do or go wrong.
    Paraptoma:
  5. to fall beside or near something
  6. a lapse or deviation from truth and uprightness
    a) a sin, misdeed
So - While direct disobedience to God’s commandments by those claiming to be Christian, is certainly “offensive”, (Mortal sin?) there is great sadness among the heavenly host when they see us “wander from the path of uprightness and honor”.

Peace
James
