Now praying in front of an abortion clinic will not have the impact that a home for unwed mothers right next door would.

Now that is a presumptuous statment. How do you know the impact of those prayers? You have no idea how many women might have changed their mind on abortion from those prayers. Or how many women went to a home for unwed mothers from prayer. Prayer is powerful, but we need faith. Faith does not mean we will personally see the results of our prayer. This is where our trust in the Lord comes into play. Pride wants to give ourselves the credit, when the credit belongs to God.

Not presumptuous at all, just “pro-active”. Abortion is the last ditch effort…wouldn’t it be great if right “next door” to the clinic was a safe haven for unwed mothers? Yes, I do believe in the power of prayer…I pray that women will choose life. Giving them a place to go…where they will be listened to, not judged and someone cares for them is a pro active response. It is making a quiet in your face impact.

I wish that I had saved the article so that I could link it here, but I can not find it again. It was about a couple of local priests who decided to do an exorcism outside of a local abortion clinic for a few days. If I remember right, 3 or 4 workers quit their positions and joined the pro-life side, and the amount of abortions performed at that location over the next few months was cut by more than half. That doens’t mean that it wouldn’t be helpful to have a womans shelter next door too to help those who change their mind. We can do both.

Remember folks that Starbucks does gift matching only. They do not directly contribute to PP as far as I know. Employees drive what is given to PP.

By my count there are 78 companies listed on the PP matching gift list. That a fairly exclusive group. plannedparenthood.org/ppcw/files/ColumbiaWillamette/Matching_gift_companies.pdf

They executives of the cooperation had to deliberately agree to match those funds. This is not passively allowing their employee to give freely. If the executives responsible for this decision saw abortion as the horror that it is, they would not match contributions to PP. The that fact they do is a strong indication that they are on the wrong side of an important ideological divide.

Others have suggested that Starbucks simply matches gifts to all 501(c)(3) organizations out of pure fairness. I highly doubt that is the case given the fact that the KKK is such an organization. Even if true this is no excuse. If I personally donate $30K to pay for 100 abortions and then donate in kind to a childrens cancer clinic does that balance it out? Is there a set figure that I can donate to offset buying death for even a single baby?

I agree with one who said that greater good can come from evil!

Startbucks clearly is in material cooperation with evil and it requires no sacrifice or effort to simply get your coffee elsewhere. It saddens me to see so many posts from Catholics poking fun at those who are willing to make this tiny gesture. We are not required to be this scrupulous when it comes to remote cooperation such as this but neither are we required to go to daily mass, pray the rosery etc. We should examine how the secular world is effecting us when ever we are critical of our brothers and sisters for being too Catholic or too pro-life.
