Does the 7 Sorrows Chaplet have it’s own blessing?

Went to get a couple of rosary beads blessed after mass today, one being a standard set, the other a 7 Sorrows Chaplet.

I told the priest that one of them was a 7 Sorrows Chaplet, to which he said that he could only bless the standard rosary beads as he did not have the specific blessing for the 7 Sorrows, although he did give them a simple blessing.

I’ve since done some Googling and I can’t see anything about the 7 Sorrows having its own blessing.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this for me please?

Many thanks and God bless.

Yeah I look into this as well and I can’t find any specific ones for that. I didn’t think there would be one for it, but if you have a Saint Benedict medal you could attach it to that rosary and then just have your priests bless it with the Saint Benedict blessing and exorcism prayer.

Also a very appropriate request for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. God love you, OP.

Many thanks CarmeliteKnight, you’ve just confirmed my suspicions.

I might just ask another priest to give them a standard.rosary blessing.

Now that you mention the St.Benedict medal, the standard rosary beads that I got blessed today actually does have a St. Benedict medal, so I might have to get an extra blessing / exorcism done for them.

Thanks once again and God bless you.

Read about Our Lady of Kibeho and her request for the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows. Our Lady taught this Rosary to the children she appeared to and this series of visitations is approved by the Church

Thank you GiftOfMercy, I will definitely read up on that apparition. God bless.

Actually there is a certain prayer…

8. BLESSING AND INVESTITURE WITH THE BLACK SCAPULAR OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS

" …Then he blesses the rosary of the Seven Sorrows, using the prayer “Almighty and merciful God” given below; and he sprinkles the rosary with holy water. …"

" 9. BLESSING OF THE ROSARY OF THE SEVEN SORROWS

(Formerly reserved to the Order of Servites)

The priest, vested in surplice and white stole, says:

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.

All: Who made heaven and earth.

P: The Lord be with you.

All: May He also be with you.

Let us pray.

Almighty and merciful God, who, out of exceeding love for us, willed that your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, come down on earth for our salvation, taking our flesh and submitting to the torment of the cross; we humbly beg you in your boundless goodness to bless (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) and to hallow (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) this rosary, which your faithful Church has consecrated to the memory of the Seven Sorrows of the Mother of your Son. Let it be endowed with such power of the Holy (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) Spirit, that whoever recites it, or carries it on his person, or reverently keeps it in his home, may always and everywhere in this life be shielded from all enemies, visible and invisible, and at the hour of death attain the grace of being presented to you by the blessed Virgin Mary, crowned with the aureole of good works through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

The priest sprinkles the rosary with holy water."

below that is a short form.

That’s brilliant CRV, thank you for providing this valuable piece of information as it seems not many people know this.

I think I’ll go back to my local parish priest (again), together with this blessing, to see if he is prepared to re-bless them.

God bless.

Your welcome. It may be easier to ask him to use the shorter form, or show him both and let him choose which form he wishes to use.

God bless.
