Does the Bible support slavery?

I recently came across a friend’s facebook post that read “If your holy book tells you how to treat your slaves, your holy book is disqualified as a source for a moral code”

What are some good resources, or what can I to my friend say to respond to this? I feel like its a good way to start a conversation, but I don’t know where to start, and I don’t want to seem defensive because I would like to dialogue with her.
