This is long overdue. Does the Catholic Church break curses? Do Priests have a ceremony or any type of prayer they can give a person who is afflicted?

I hate to have to admit this, but I seriously think I have a curse. No matter what I have tried in life I can’t succeed! This is not a cop out. I can’t succeed at my jobs and I have not been hired for years. My family is struggling financially. I don’t want to set a bad example for my children and have them following in my failed footprints.! I am damn serious about this. I am willing to go to a Priest and be prayed over. This has got to stop.
Thanks

You are unique and thru your successes and suffering you play a special role in God’s plan for the salvation of mankind and all creation.

Any Catholic, or for that fact any christian (IMHO) in a state of grace can not be cursed. Can their be evil attachment yes and no… your situation would have to be reviewed by a priest and from what information you have provided I dare say that most people here would not want to state one-way-or-another.

Please, arrange a time to talk with your Pastor and with Catholic Charities about counseling and some job training, receive reconciliation, if you have not already done so, and attend Mass as often as you can. If you can, find a church with adoration and try to pray before the blessed sacrament for help and healing.

Christ never promised us an easy life. No, indeed, he tells us that we must take up our cross. There is no magic prayer, nor talisman - just our faith in the Lord and what he wants. Eventually, you will need to reflect upon what he wants and not what you want.

Please read the book of Job… The Latin Vulgate Old Testament Bible - Engish - Book of Job Chap 1

IDK, the CC has specific ways to deal with demonic possession, and it definitely requires more than the person attending mass frequently, I almost have to believe the CC can relieve you of this, but I would start off by talking the senior priest at the parish and go from there, its likely some type of ceremony, like an exorcism, but not as dangerous and stressful on the parties involved, Im sure the CC has seen just about every curse out there, so it should not be anything they havent seen before.

It’s called an exorcism.

Based on what you have typed, it doesn’t sound like you need one.

However, you could talks to a priest to help you attempt to figure out what your Gifts of The Holy Spirit are. Not all priests are trained in this, but your pastor can point you to a lay person, priest or Deacon who is trained.

Also, universities/colleges and job placement/training centers have aptitude tests you can take to see what job types match your personality and interests.

The real problem is that in today’s society, we often feel forced into careers that pay large salaries vs doing what we love to do, or even what we are meant to do. Sometimes life is better with less material wealth (yes, I know it’s easier said than done; sometimes I really wish I could take my own advise).

May The Lord help you to find your path. Amen.

You might try praying some spiritual warfare and deliverance prayers, that renounce and pray against various occult influences, like St. Patrick’s Breastplate.

And pray the Hail Mary and St. Michael Prayer.

You also might try reading up on a ‘perfect act of contrition’,

Pray for the grace of, and make an act of perfect contrition, and then an act of Spiritual Communion.

You might try asking a good traditional priest to pray over you, or place his hand on your head and something like, 'I by the authority vested in me, through Jesus Christ, break and dissolve any curses, maledictions, etc. on [Name].

Generally sin is what lets bad things into our lives. So if there’s some mortal sin around, well, that has to be overcome, for such and every reason.

The sign of the cross is in itself a minor exorcism. Also the Holy Names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, prayed aloud devoutly, such as, ‘Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, protect us.’

Curses can be attached to a person, and many other bad things. The way they come in is trough our sins, we wound our heart. And evil can find a way in. The way to close those wounds in the heart and seal the entry is to go to confession.

Surrender to God’s will and everything will work fine. Not an easy road to begin with, but it is true.

Ha! you already have got the answer from the previous posters.

With all due respect, I am so done with the doctrine of redemptive suffering. I am no Christian Mystic! My marriage is falling apart, I haven’t worked in years. In fact, I am on the verge of calling it quits with everything, Church, The Rosary, everything. I say this will respect and not putting anyone else down who practices it. My return to the Catholic Church has not really produced any fruit that I can see. It’s the same old thing.

i say, offer your sufferings to god
improve your character, be hard working and optimistic,
read apologetics so that you dont leave the church
everyone pray for him

Well, Im betting they tried all those things, and probably for quite awhile, I too have tried these things with absolutely nothing changing over the years, so eventually with no results, its normal for people to begin to wonder about it all.

How long should we be expected to continue to follow and believe in something, when we are consistently give no evidence of and no results, Im not saying its like this for everyone, I know plenty of people that do get results and replies from God, and I have seen their lives change, so not sure why certain people are ignored…God does know when someone is born, whether they will go to heaven or not, so maybe this has something to do with it, if a deity knows foro sure where you go at death, why would they try to help that person turn their lives around…?? doesnt make sense.

Wow. It makes too much sense. I recall one of the Epistles, perhaps it was St. Paul, who said some are born to be vessels of dishonor. That’s a scary reality. There was a time, when I thought God was answering my prayers. I haven’t felt that way in a long time.

As much as we would all love to help you over the internet, it’s kind of hard. You need to be speaking with someone face to face.

I think what you typed above (bolded) is part of the problem. God answers our prayers in ways we don’t understand. Sometimes we suffer to bring salvation to people we haven’t even met yet.

My point: don’t assume God is not answering your prayers. Assume that either (a) you don’t understand His plan or (b) that you are not hearing the Holy Spirit.

Without sounding degrading, I think you need counseling… Spiritual Counseling, Marital Counseling and Career Counseling. To me, it sounds like you might have some depression, which can make all parts of you life feel dark and like they are imploding.

Please seek out (if you have not already) a Catholic therapist. Check out catholictherapists.com/ or contact your diocese.

May The Lord bring you wisdom and peace.

You have to take the lead in solving the affections you are suffering thru, as have these two gentlemen, and hundreds of Solders from the Iraq war. They are not wollowing in self pitty and asking people to affirm that act (I don’t intend that to be Uncharitable; however, sometimes constructive criticism (aka “the truth”) hurts.

You have free will and you have some choices to make. We can only offer some advise and our prayers.

Praying that our Lord shows you the way.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle,
be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

Sáncte Míchael Archángele,
defénde nos in proélio,
cóntra nequítiam et insídias diáboli ésto præsídium.
Ímperet ílli Déus, súpplices deprecámur:
tuque, prínceps milítiæ cæléstis,
Sátanam aliósque spíritus malígnos,
qui ad perditiónem animárum pervagántur in múndo,
divína virtúte, in inférnum detrúde. Ámen

…and I say to you read the Book of Job.

I ask you, how many times does Jesus point out that we’re not to expect our reward in life but to take up our cross?

Mikekle and MainBrain:

Basically, quite often, being an adult sucks and yes life is unfair and crooks get richer and people that don’t work, and could be working, get money to sit on their backsides and people are cruel, the terrorists seem to have the upper hand… and we’re off to hell in a hand-basket as G.Ma would often say when I was in the kitchen.

We each have our own (as someone here put it) “Dark Time of the Soul”
I could write 20 posts covering just my sorrows, and up until now, I’ve never told anyone about those troubles, and I don’t intend to do so now… because, I know, that others have suffered more, and because, that is not how my family raised me - to complain, and expect someone to do for me… I grew up, and still am, a military brat, we have nothing, and we live, we give all (our fathers/mothers, our friends, our homes), and endure, we thrive where others wither by the sheer force of our will and our faith in God; because by doing so, we own the cross, and by owning that cross, we can and do survive by taking action to fix what can be and endure what cannot be fixed.

God has answered the prayer; however, we often don’t hear this answer because it’s not what we want at that moment or because it was a whisper and not a trumpet fan-fair. Because it’s not the ease and riches now… again I ask, how many times does Jesus point out that we’re not to expect our reward in this life, but the next?

So, quite often, being an adult sucks and yes life is unfair… and maybe we need to ask for help, and all too often, that help isn’t what we want; however, perhaps it is what we need and we need to decide to either do it or to endure it.
