Does the Church baptize during Advent?

I recently had a baby and called my parish to set a date for his baptism but they informed me that they do not baptize during Advent. Is this allowed? Why can’t he be baptized now? What would happen to my baby if he died before baptism?

No. The parish should baptize your baby.

He can be and should be. Just as there is no prohibition on baptism during Lent, so there is no prohibition on baptism during Advent. Please see the link below for more information.

If your baby is in immediate danger of death, you could baptize him yourself. If that were not possible for some reason, the Church entrusts the salvation of unbaptized children to the mercy and love of God, who is not bound by the sacraments he instituted and may provide some way for unbaptized children to attain heaven.

That said, it would be better to focus on arranging for your child’s baptism rather than pondering a “What if?” that, God willing, may never come to pass.
