Does the Church need practical (not theological) reform?

This is a pertinent topic, I think, amongst modern Catholics, so why not take a poll?

Again, the question is about reforming practical things, not theological issues. In other words, bringing about change in how the Church functions without changing any of it’s fundamental teachings. I think many of the faithful automatically equate the word “reform” with changes in the Church’s teachings on certain issues, and I don’t think that is necessarily the case. I believe the Church can improve itself without needing to adjust its teachings for the modern world. But it’s not about what I think, that’s why there’s a poll! 🙂

Yes, I think so. More catechism and bible studies, especially for youth 🙂

The complex, Byzantine organization of the Vatican Offices need major overhaul. The finances of the Church (and its banking operations) need more openness.

There are far too many secrets at the Vatican - too many “back-room” dealings. Secrecy is appropriate for some things, but I would think that the large majority of Church business ought to be conducted in plain sight where the Faithful can see how their Church is being administered. It is, after all, our Church; it does not belong to Vatican bureaucrats.

I couldn’t agree more. A problem I often encounter when discussing this with other more traditional Catholics is that they view it as a challenge to the Church’s hierarchy, equating asking for less secrecy and more openness with dismantling the Magisterium and implementing a democracy of sorts. The two are not the same! We don’t have to abandon our traditions to fix problems within the Church. That would be my message related to this thread, if I were to subscribe to one.

How about more Catholic memes and anime for evangelization purposes? 🙂

If the Church carries on doing things in the same way as it has in recent decades it will keep on getting the same results.

No change is not an option in many places - laws are forcing much better safeguarding on the Church. It’s so sad that has been so necessary.

Streamlining the bureaucracy would be a nice step. There are many traditions (NOTE: I did not say Traditions, with a capital “T”) that maybe we could do away with.

Do away with some of the paperwork, and trim the ‘fat’ around the Vatican, so that administration is far easier.

Yes. I could not agree more.

PS: Catholic Answers needs a “like” button like FB has. Just sayin’.
