We are in a tight knit community, very friendly and open. So Father is usually introduced before Mass, or knows some of us with Protestants part of our family, is told there are visitors coming…I have heard them say it a number of times…I had seen the priests do that in other parishes as well.

Or for a special occasion like Christmas or Easter, or a funeral, or some other event that draws in kin.

A question for our nonCatholic friends, and former nonCatholic friends. Does the Church YOU attend spends time during the services, bible studies, and other church activities talking about the Catholic Church?

if Yes, Do you know why they did this? What was the purpose?
In nearly 30 years as a practicing Protestant (Former Roman Catholic) there has been no more than a dozen times when the RCC was discussed in services, Bible studies, and other church activities. The context was always this same: In working through a book of the Bible we came to a set of verses or a point of doctrine that are interpreted differently by RC and Protestant churches. The purpose was to educate, not to bash.

There have been more times when the RCC has come up anecdotally in the context of the shared history between the two groups. We recognize that we share a common history up until the 16th century.

We have mentioned the Catholic Church from time to time, usally in the context of religious education.

We often take our youth to different religious services to allow them to learn about them and experience them.

We have taken the kids to a Catholic Mass on a couple of occasions, including a Christmas service.

The kids really enjoyed it, but were disappointed they could not take part in the communion service portion of the mass.

(We prevented them from going up out of respect for Catholic tradition, which we researched before taking them to the service.)

Peace,

Seeker

In my former AoG church, we didn’t hear much negative about Catholicism from any of the pastors, indeed they might sometimes mention having visited a Catholic church. But we might hear some anti-Catholic prejudice (usually mild) from some of the other members.

OTOH, in my present Anglo-Catholic church, all mentions of the CC have been positive. But not so positive that we’re about to convert.
