Does the context of a video game affect its sinfulness?

If looking at pornography and/or playing games containing lustful contents in it is sinful, wouldn’t murder in video games be counted as a sin? It may be argued that it isn’t sinful since it is only simulated but the same can be said for games containing lustful contents within it, yet it is clearly a sin to play such games. By the way, I said ‘‘murder’’ instead of ‘‘killing’’ as I’m implying unjust killing within a video game. Video games that portray you as a soldier defending one’s country by having to defeat the opposition seems fine to me.

Now obviously if one enjoys the very act of murder itself and plays the video game to get the pleasure of it, that would be sinful. But for those people who plays a particular game such as Assassin’s Creed and there is murder involved in the game, though the main reason for playing the game is not because of the violence itself, would it be sinful to play? Assassin’s Creed sometimes causes you to kill someone without a justified reason.

tl;dr Does the context of the video game affect its sinfulness? Would murder in a video game be sinful such as in Assassin’s Creed, even though the person playing does not enjoy the game for the murder itself?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this, thank you!
 
ResoluteSheep, perhaps you should make an appointment with your parish priest and get a handle on what is and isn’t sinful concerning video games. This is your 6th thread in one month asking about sin and gaming of one sort or situation or another.

He hasn’t been really free at the moment so I could not really schedule an appointment with him, I’ve been contacting him through emails though. What he told me so far was that if the context is okay, then the game shouldn’t be sinful to play. I forgot to ask him this question unfortunately, but felt like I may have been bothering him too much through my emails
 
How bout this.

Let this be your last question here about video games and just play the friqqin games?

Or better yet, ditch the games and take up cycling.

I could do the first bit, will need to clarify regarding the games I have doubts about first before I play them though. Cycling does sound fun, would be useful in my upcoming excursion too 😃

This is the only proper way to treat the scrupulous on public Internet forums. To not enable them in this behaviour, because it’s unhealthy.

Confessor only. That’s it.
 
Sinful or not, you really need to get a handle on your obsession with video games. Playing video games in moderation is fine, but it seems like you’re constantly posting about video games. If they’re stressing you out this much, maybe you should ask if there isn’t a better use of your time?

Go outside. Have experiences in the real world instead of via your computer monitor.

(Again, not saying that there’s anything wrong with video games in moderation, but they really seem to have taken over your life.)
 
No one can validate your playing the games. We just are not qualified. Your best course of action is to do what has already been advised: speak to your priest/confessor or a consular. Peace and prayers.
 
I second what others have said. OP: Find a better outlet for your free time.
And if one suffers from scruples a priest is the only way to go.

People will be told what is best for them, because they ask. 🤷
I’m getting pretty tired of people saying we can only post with one answer, or one way.

It’s SUMMER! Go outside! Visit a children’s hospital! Clean the yard! Visit a state park!
Plant flowers! Run in the sprinklers! Go to a museum! Learn an instrument!

Obsessive Video games playing will only fry your brain and waste time.
