This year the Epiphany of Our Lord is celebrated on Saturday, during the evening. Would it fullfill the normal Sunday obligation the next day? I have to move back where I live and I won’t be able to attend the morning Mass on Sunday.
Nonetheless, if it does not fullfill it, I will try to be early and attend the evening Mass there.

Probably it has been asked a lot of times before, but I haven’t been able to find an answers. I hope everyone can celebrate Christmas Eve today with the people you love being thankful for how The Lord came to our lives. Thank you all.

I’m pretty sure Epiphany is transferred to Sunday in the United States. In any case, a mass on Saturday evening fulfills the Sunday obligation regardless of what day it is celebrated for.

Though if you live in a country where Epiphany and Sunday are both obligatory, you will have to attend two Masses to fulfill both obligations.

The Epiphany Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in my country.
I guess you are referring to a Holy Obligation Sunday. No, it will be a normal Sunday. I knew that evening Saturday Mass fulfilled the obligation, so I doubted because of that. Thank you for answering me. Merry Christmas, by the way.

There are some countries where Epiphany is a Holy Day of Obligation. I meant that if that was the case, two Masses would be necessary. Just like with Christmas being on Monday.

Yeah, the Epiphany is a Holy Day of Obligation in my country, so I guess I will have to go on Sunday as the Holy Day does not fulfill the obligation for Sunday. I hope I can be back on time for the evening Mass. Thank you again for the clarification.

So if seems that in your country, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord is celebrated on January 6, and the
Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is Sunday, January 7, so there are two obligations.

You could attend Friday evening or Saturday morning for the Holy day and then Saturday evening for your Sunday obligation if that works better.

I have been thinking about going to the eve of Epiphany Mass as well, yet I don’t know if I will be able to attend that day. Thank you for your recommendation.

Our parish didn’t say anything about the feast of the Baptism of the Lord being celebrated on January 7. I didn’t remember it. I don’t know why I was thinking it was a different day. Oh well, that is enough reason to go on Sunday then. Thanks for the information.

Obligations are not absolute. God does not ask the impossible, and necessary travel on a HDO automatically dispenses, if it is very difficult or impossible to attend Mass on that day, as may be the case when, say, using public transport or traveling in a remote area.
