I was wondering if the green scapular really does aid in conversions. I know a few people who want a closer relationship with Jesus, but aren’t big fans of Catholicism. It pains me that they don’t know the Real Presence in the Eucharist. So if I follow Mary’s instructions for the green scapular, will they find a home in the Church?

Sacramentals do not override free will. They are aids which help dispose us to receive grace. They are not magic. They presume devotion on the part of the person using them (whether for himself or another), and cooperation with the graces offered. I believe the green scapular requires that you invoke our Lady’s intercession for the person daily. It could also be helpful to offer up sacrifices for the person, such as fasting.

As to personal testimonies regarding the green scapular (assuming the conditions above are met), I don’t have any personal ones, but you could consult a body devoted to its use, as the Society of the Green Scapular.

They way it works, according to the apparition, you give it to the person, or have it in their home, and say " Immaculate heart of Mary pray for us now and at the hour of our death, amen." For that person once daily. The scapular should also be blessed.

It depends on the faith of the person who is using it.

According to what Mary said, it is trust in her to bring it about that is of utmost importance, and if that is not present, the scapular will not have it’s meaningful effect. For example, if a person gives it to another thinking that “it won’t do any harm and who knows it might be true”, probably won’t work. The trust she is asking for is complete trust that it will happen if I am faithful to the conditions of the scapular. In other words the person knows it is going to happen because Mary said so.

One other important idea about the sacpular is that it is not just another sacramental, but a sacramental that has the support of Mary behind it and her personal word that she will give the faith or increase the faith of the person.
