Does the Holy Spirit leave us?

I understand that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that he dwells within us. If we sin, eg. mortal sin, does he leave us or is the Holy Spirit with us no matter what unto death?

We are known as the temple of the Holy Spirit for he dwells within us. If we commit a mortal sin does the Holy Spirit leave from within us.
 
When committing a mortal sin does the Holy Spirit leave from within you or does he stay within you no matter what until you die?
