The Holy Spirit remains with us, except for where the black mark that the mortal sin made on your soul. The more mortal sin-the more black marks, and a smaller area for Him to dwell. So when you go to confession, the black mark is erased and the Holy Spirit fills you completely again.
This is what I was taught-it makes it may not be 100 percent accurate, but close.
No, the Holy Spirit, Spirit of Christ, the Light given to all men is never absent from interacting with the regenerate man as God’s indwelling Presence, for those not yet redeemed, “that of God” never leaves, but calls them to repentance.
