Does the soul exist prior to entering our body or was it created when we were given life?

Dr. Ludwig Ott in his “Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma” writes: “Modern Christian philosophy generally holds that the creation and infusion of the spiritual soul coincides with the moment of conception.” (Denzinger 1185)
