According to the below translations only Yousuf Ali uses the word Trinity, So what is the exact word used in arabic in the Quran? Is it Three or Trinity?

004.171
YUSUFALI: O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not “Trinity” : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.
PICKTHAL: O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not “Three” - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.
SHAKIR: O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only a messenger of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His messengers, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one Allah; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.

YUSUFALI: They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them.
PICKTHAL: They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the third of three; when there is no Allah save the One Allah. If they desist not from so saying a painful doom will fall on those of them who disbelieve.
SHAKIR: Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely Allah is the third (person) of the three; and there is no god but the one Allah, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them who disbelieve.

As simple as this : Muhammad neither knew what the Trinity consists of nor the correct word for the Trinity. The translator above is not faithful to the arabic which uses the word “three” and not Trinity and hence the translator is guilty of higher knowledge and accuracy than the Quran’s author.

Is it true that Mohamed confused the trinity as being Father Son and Virgin Mary? I heard that from a college proffesor who was a Palistinian, but he said a lot of things I am inclined to doubt, so I’d rather see if anyone here corrects me.

that is true. Everytime he refered to the Trinity, and that was in 2 or 3 places i guess, he mentioned Mary as part of the Trinity and as being a deity, and not one time did he mention either the Holy Spirit, or the word Trinity, not even the word Father. He turned round the bush and got it all confused and Muslims believe this is how much Allah understands and therefore Muhammad must be correct about what we believe in.

wow, and how do Muslims explain this? Because this obvious error seems good enough proof that the Coran is not infallible and therefore did not come from God.

you dosn’t need any explaination from muslims
you just ask them about the verse they are talking about , and you will find by yourself how fallacy they are

I’m not sure what you mean, but I assume that Muslims explain this contradiction in some way so as to go on sustaining the claim that their holy book is infallible.

correct, instead of acknowleging that the Quran does not neither word it correctly nor give the correct belief , and worse yet, it inserts Mary as a deity while talking about the Trinity, they turn round the bush because the Quran’s author is supposed to be all-knowing and cannot commit the obvious theological blunders found in the Quran when it comes to Christianity.

I also like How they say Jesus was a prophet and disqualify him at the same time. He is a prophet who tells lies that He is the Son of God and so forth. I hope they don’t consider many liars prophets because in my book people with false prophesies are not of God.

i mean that quran have no verses says that trinity refere to father , son , and mary
if you see contradition in the quran , so do some research and bring for me these verses first to discuss it
if they sustained thier accusation against quran with the verses they talking about , you will not need any explanations from muslims , as for the verses they refere to is very clear and understandable and it dosn’t refere to trinity atall

¡Ah! Now it makes sense! Sorry, I didn’t understand you the first time arround. 😊
Here you go then, I looked for it and it seems to actually be there:
"And behold! Allah will say: “O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, ‘Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah’?” He will say: “Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing thou wouldst indeed have known it. Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what in Thine. For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden. [Qur’an 5:116]”

I’m just curious, which sects were these that worshipped Mary?

And why is the Holy Spirit never mentioned as part of the Trinity or Christians condemned in the Quran for worshipping God the Holy Spirit? (Or is the Holy Spirit (not the Angel Gabriel) mentioned as part of the Trinity in the Quran?)

Did Allah only care about those sects that worshipped Mary and Jesus that he made a point to mention them and their specific worship of Jesus and Mary, while ignoring the Christians by not specifically mentioning Father, Son and Holy Spirit - only making a vague reference to “three”?

This fatwa seems to indicate that the verse in question does refer to Christians and the Trinity, not some small heretical sect:
It is quite evident to everyone that the Christians used to take ‘Eesa (Jesus) and his mother Maryam (Mary), may Allaah exalt her mention, as two gods besides Allaah [this started several years after the death of ‘Eesa and does not apply to his followers during his life] This applies to the Christians of today as well; some of them openly express this using different terms.
Acts of worship are a number of words and actions that are dedicated to Allaah, and whoever dedicates them to anyone else besides Allaah, has indeed taken another god with Allaah, even if the person who does so does not really claim that this creature is his god.
Therefore, what some Christians claim today that they believe in one God and that they are not the ones referred to in the Quran, and their claim that what is mentioned is about a disbelieving sect in the pre-Islamic era of ignorance and it has nothing to do with the Christians; all these claims are nothing but arrogance and it has no sound foundation.
EDIT: Ok, I just found 2 groups that were common in Arabia at that time according to this article. I’m just curious as to why Allah singled them out while not singling out mainstream Christians who believed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
Indeed, the Marianites, who venerated Mary quite fervently, and the Collyridians, who worshipped Mary as a goddess, were in existence in Arabia at that time. lightshinesindarkness.com/history_errors_koran_2.htm

See? This is what I meant when I asked what the muslim rationalization was that is used to excuse this obvious mistake.

There is no need for the word “trinity” to appear explicitly. Muslim understanding of the trinity is that there are three gods (hence we are called polytheists by many muslims) and so by saying that Jesus is taken along with His blessed mother as if they were both equals with God is the same as saying that they constitute the Trinity.

well , it’s you own conclusion that the verse is talking about trinity .
no muslims considered this verse to be explanation for trinity , so that your accusations are not applied to us

you are free free to make your own conclusion , but don’t blame us for your understnading , it will be more valuable if you discussed our understnading for quran instead of yours

Really? No muslim at all?? Without even going onto the internet I can allready cite the one I mentioned befor: my Contemporary Islamic World teacher at my university. A Palestinian Muslim. In fact, that is what prompted my question in the first place. A muslim saying somehting absolutely outrageous about the trinity and telling me it is in the Coran.

[EDIT]

Sorry, Quran, I tend to use the Spanish spelling out of habbit. 😊

“And behold! God will say: ‘O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, ‘Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah’ He will say: ‘Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, Thou wouldst indeed have known it. Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Thine. For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.’” (Qur’an 5:116)

And where does Quran say Mary [pbuh] is part of the trinity. The mentioning of the “Trinity” appears in the Holy Qur’an in verses 4:171 and 5:73. In these two verses the name of Mary is not mentioned as “the third Person of the Holy Trinity”.

5:116 is not talking about Trinity, but rather, giving examples of shirk (claiming divinity for beings other than God) and a “warning against excessive devotion to Jesus and extravagant veneration of Mary, a reminder linked to the central theme of the Qur’an that there is only one God and he alone is to be worshipped.” When read in this light, it can be understood as an admonition, “Against the divinization of Jesus that is given elsewhere in the Qur’an and a warning against the virtual divinization of Mary in the declaration of the fifth-century church councils that she is ‘God-bearer’.”

For those to want to argue that Verse 5:116 is talking about Trinity, they have no idea of concept of ‘shirk’ in Islam. The ‘Hail Mary’ Prayer [whether you pray to her as a God, mother of God, for intercession or any other reason] is another example of shirk [setting up partners/gods beside God]. To give you another example;

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah, and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded (in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God - Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)." (9:31)

When some of the Jews and Christians became Muslims at the time of the Prophet Muhammad [pbuh], they asked the Prophet [pbuh], how come the verse talk about us taking our rabbis and priests as god as we never worshipped them. The Prophet [pbuh] asked them didn’t you obey them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah. They replied say, they were reminded, that was their talking of their priests and rabbis as Lords besides Allah [shirk].

I suggest you read about the concept of God in Islam from authentic sources, and what better a source than Quran itself.

Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches can be found filled with carved or molten images and/or statues of Jesus Christ and his mother Mary, in various sizes and shapes.
Most of these statues or images are placed in the prominent places of the prayer halls of these Christian Churches for venerating and worshipping of these entities. One would also notice that the majority of the attending congregates would kneel, worship, venerate and pray before these images as their reverent rituals and inherited traditions. Many devoted believers would place lighted candles in front of these statues or images before worshipping or paying their homage.

These Catholic congregates who venerate Lord Jesus as their God and call Virgin Mary as the “Mother of God”, do form the bulk of the Christians community. It has been so since the inception of the Roman Catholic Church

Mary’s exalted position also earned her the titles Mother of God and Coredemptrix, suggesting that she played an active role in the redemption of mankind along with her son. The Mother of God title was applied early in church history, based on the notion that Jesus was fully God as well as human. This was established as a doctrine in the 4th century. In the Eastern churches this doctrine played a major devotional role and became a favorite subject for icon painters. During the Reformation era it was accepted by both Catholic and Protestant scholars, though Mary’s role in Protestant theology has declined markedly since then.

Compton’s Interactive Encyclopedia (1995), under the heading “Mary”

That is just another example of Shirk, taking mother of Jesus [pbuh] as God besides Allah,

Astaghfirullah

May Allah [swt] guide us closer to the truth.

IS THE BIBLE GODS WORD?

By Ahmed Deedat

CHAPTER ONE

WHAT THEY SAY

CHRISTIANS CONFESS

Dr. W. Graham Scroggie of the MOODY BIBLE INSTITUTE, Chicago, one of the most prestigious Christian Evangelical Mission in the world, answering the question — “Is the Bible the Word of God?” (also the title of his book), under the heading: IT IS HUMAN, YET DIVINE. He says on page 17:

“Yes, the Bible is human, though some, out of zeal which is not according to knowledge, 1 have denied this. Those books2 have passed through the minds of men, are written in the language of men, were penned by the hands of men, and bear in their style the characteristics of men.” (Emphasis added).

Another erudite Christian scholar, Kenneth Cragg, the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, says on page 277 of his book, “The Call of the Minaret”:

“Not so the New Testament3 . . . There is condensation and editing; 4 there is choice, reproduction and witness. The Gospels have come through the mind of the Church behind the authors. They represent experience and history.” 5

If words have any meaning, do we need to add another word of comment to prove our case? No! But the professional propagandists, after letting the cat out of the bag, still have the face to try to make their readers believe that they have proved beyond the shadow of any doubt that the Bible is the “irrefragable 6 Word of God.” Their semantic gymnastics — equivocating, and playing with words — is amazing!
  1. Out of ignorance.
  2. The Bible is not Just a Book. It is a selection and compilation of many books.
  3. As opposed to the Qur’an.
  4. Another word for Interpolating.
  5. Emphasis are mine.
  6. Indisputable.
Both these Doctors of Religion are telling us in the clearest language humanly possible that the Bible is the handiwork of man, all the while pretending that the are proving to the contrary. An old Arab saying goes: “IF SUCH ARE THE PRIESTS, GOD BLESS THE CONGREGATION.”

With this sort of drive, the hot-gospeller and the Bible-thumper is “inspired” to harry the “heathen.” 1 A theological student — a not-yet-qualified young evangelist — from the University of Witwatersrand, became a frequent visitor to the Newtown Mosque in Johannesburg, with the “noble” thought of "witnessing"2 to the members of its congregation. When I was introduced to him, (and having learnt his purpose), I invited him to lunch at my brother’s residence — a stone’s-throw from the Mosque. While discussing the authenticity of the Bible over the dinner table and sensing his stubborn dogmatism, I put out a feeler: “Your Professor Geyser, (The Head of the Department of Theology) does not believe the Bible to be the Word of God.” Without the slightest surprise he answered, “I know.” Now I personally had no knowledge of the Professor’s conviction about the Bible. I had only assumed so from a controversy which raged around him about the “Divinity of Christ.” 3 He had taken issue with the orthodox believers on this point some years ago. I continued further, saying, “Your lecturer does not believe the Bible as being God’s Word.” The young evangelist, responded again, “I know” but he continued this time-with the words, “but I believe that it is the Word of God!” There is no real remedy for such people. Even Jesus bewailed this sickness:

“… seeing they see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.” (Matthew 13:13

Ahhhhh, yes… The biggest Christian hater… Ahmed Deedat, the pillar of islam…
the muslim
“… seeing they see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.” (Matthew 13:13
For the life of me, I don’t understand why muslims quote our “**corrupted **Bible”…
