Frequently, Muslims will say that Christianity promotes slavery. And that Islam denounces it. But in fact, the Quran only admonishes Muslims to free other Muslims. Non-muslims are fair game and this can be proven by the way that Muslims continue to enslave all other peoples where eve they go. To prove this, you have to look no further than the news.

Slavery in Sudan
CSI has been working on the ground in Sudan since 1995 to liberate Christians and other non-Muslims forced into slavery by Islamist militiamen armed and directed by the Khartoum regime.

Christians and Yazidis in Iraq stand on the brink of extinction

Christians and Yazidis in Iraq stand on the brink of extinction … the Christians who escaped ISIS, as well as some Yazidis and Muslims. … She was abducted by ISIS and then enslaved, tortured and assaulted for nine months.

Yep, he gave himself many privileges which he didn’t permit of his followers. Another proof that he was a fraud.

There is another verse in the Quran, 3:64, that interpreters have argued may actually be explicit authority for abolition.

It condemns any “person of the book” who seeks lordship over another human being. Sayyid Qutb, the Sunni theologian and commentator on the Quran who is widely admired by literalists and traditionalists like the ISIS ideologues, offered extensive commentary on this verse in his masterful work, Fi Zilal al-Quran (“In the Shade of the Quran”).

Commenting on the verse, he observed that enslaving human beings, like Pharaoh enslaved the Hebrews, is the “worst type of corruption.”

He argued that the verse aims to make sure that “none is elevated above another,” that “none enslaves another,” and that human beings “do not enslave one another.”

He posits that Islam is “total liberation of man from enslavement by others.” A number of other prominent jurists have agreed with this position.

Recently, a number of well-respected Muslim jurists and opinion-makers directed a letter to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, covering a number of issues.

On the issue of slavery, they observed that “[n]o scholar of Islam disputes that one of Islam’s aims is to abolish slavery” and that there has been a Muslim consensus on the prohibition of slavery for over a century.

This opinion further supports the conclusion that ISIS has wrongfully enslaved the Yazidis and others.

May? As in might be? That doesn’t sound very certain. Perhaps thats why Muslims haven’t taken those intepreters seriously.

But let’s look at it.

(3:64) Say: 'People of the Book!

This is addressed to Muslims.

Come to a word common between us and you:57 that we shall serve none but Allah and shall associate none with Him in His divinity and that some of us will not take others as lords beside Allah.’ And if they turn their backs (from accepting this call), tell them: 'Bear witness that we are the ones who have submitted ourselves exclusively to Allah.'

And it says that Muslims will not accept any ruler over them but Allah.

It doesn’t say that Muslims will not take any slaves. No wonder no one pays attention to these interpreters you are mentioning.

Obviously most Muslims do not have, and have no interest in having slaves. So, most Muslims have accepted the jurisprudence of the most recent mainstream scholarship.

I don’t think that the perverse exegesis of ISIS, or its equivalent, is representative of Islam.

But apparently, no interest in stopping the Muslims who do. At least, I’ve seen no outrage from that community directed at their peers who believe in such things.

They’ve been forced to.

Do you think that most Muslims would accept Sharia Law? According to this video, most Muslims, even those you would consider moderate, would like to impose Sharia Law on everyone.

Do you think most Catholics would accept Catholic canon law? Sharia is open to more interpretation, but it’s nothing more than the equivalent of any system of “law” of any other religion.

Do you think everyone should have Christian values? This is basically the same question. Quite shocking that Muslims would want others to follow their own value system isn’t it.

The flaw in your logic is that you equate Sharia Law with all others.

“God is very straightforward about this — not we Muslims, not subjective, the Sharia is very clear about it, the punishment for homosexuality, bestiality or anything like that is death,” Muslim cleric Sheikh Khalid Yasin said in a YouTube video posted online. “We don’t make any excuses about that, it’s not our law — it’s the Koran.”

In Saudi Arabia, lawmakers are looking to impose the death penalty on gay people who show their sexuality in public and on social media, according to reports. They claim social media has caused an uprise in the number of gays in their country. In Iran, in accordance with sharia law, men and women can be flogged for lesser acts such as kissing. In fact, in the Middle East, there are 10 countries where homosexuality may be punishable by law.

“What is [Islam’s] judgment on sodomy and lesbianism?” said Ayatollah Ali Sistani, an influential Shiite sharia authority, when asked about the subject. “Forbidden. Those involved in the act should be punished. In fact, sodomites should be killed in the worst manner possible.”

Omar Mateen, the shooter responsible for the horrific attack in Orlando early Sunday morning, was the American-born son of immigrants from Afghanistan, where homosexuality may be punished by death.

An Islamic scholar who spoke earlier this year at an Orlando mosque has previously said gay people should be killed according to Islamic law “out of compassion.”

“Death is the sentence,” Sheikh Farrokh Sekaleshfar said at a speech at the Husseini Islamic Center in Orlando in 2013. “We know. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about this. Death is the sentence.”

“We have to have that compassion for people,” he continued. “With homosexuals, it’s the same. Out of compassion, let’s get rid of them now.”

Rape and Adultery

Why are rape victims often punished by Islamic courts as adulterers?
Under Islamic law, rape can only be proven if the rapist confesses or if there are four male witnesses. …

You compare this law with Catholic Canon Law or the Law of the Land in the US?

I already stated that Sharia law is open to more interpretation than Catholic canon law. Other than that, it is a system of law that conveys the religion’s morality, among other things. In that respect it is the same.

As I already stated, the mainstream jurisprudence in Islam espouses to none of the things you are talking about. You are gathering opinions from the fringes of Islam that are tainting your view of the mainstream. Saudi Arabia is not mainstream. Neither is the Ayatollah of Iran mainstream.

I already stated that Sharia law is open to more interpretation than Catholic canon law…
Just because you say something, I don’t have to believe it. When you provide the examples of Catholics beheading people throughout the world in the name of Christianity, I’ll take you seriously.

As it stands, you’re merely trying to defend the indefensible.

Other than that, it is a system of law that conveys the religion’s morality, among other things. In that respect it is the same. I see no outcry from Islam when Muslims commit atrocities. In fact, they seem to be very happy about it. I still remember the celebrations when the planes hit the twin towers. Nothing seems to have changed.

whatever the Quran does , or does not , teach about slavery,

whatever the Bible does , or does not , teach about slavery,

I take " slavery " with a very large grain of salt.

Why ?

For an American citizen to get a job at Burger King requires no less than three forms of identification.

Yet, I can walk to a farm where all the labor is illegal aliens, and can drive in ten minutes to six other farms where , likewise, all the labor is illegal aliens.
And I’m not guessing about their status ; almost all of them attend my church.

Which means the general public knows all about this, and the police know all about this.

Agriculture is so dependent on illegal labor because OSHA regulations, minimum wage and other labor laws, don’t really apply to them . Being illegal, they won’t call a cop and complain

— Not that labor laws really apply to Americans anymore either. I’m not 100 years old, but i remember when even the smallest towns had one, two, five or six factories.
At least 80% of that is all gone .

Presumably , Third World despotism’s and totalitarian police states have figured out how to make pencils and tin cans cheaper , at the same or better wages, for the same or better benefits.
( Yes, that is sarcasm. )

In sum , I rarely , if ever , hear the word , " slavery " used except where it is used to dress up a bald-faced lie.

Although a Muslim cannot enslave another Muslim, he can enslave non-Muslims. And if someone is already a slave and they convert to Islam, they are still slaves–conversion doesn’t set you free.
