Does the tabernacle need to be made of precious metal, or is it acceptable for the Eucharist to be in a wooden tabernacle. At a hospital chapel, Jesus is in the corner of the chapel in what truly appears to be nothing more than a locked cabinet. It is not freestanding, and there is no metal on it at all–other than the lock obviously.

- In accordance with the structure of each church and legitimate local customs, the Most Blessed Sacrament should be reserved in a tabernacle in a part of the church that is truly noble, prominent, conspicuous, worthily decorated, and suitable for prayer.[124]
So…inviolable means never to be broken, infringed or dishonored. Would it not be possible for me to smash through the wooden cabinet or use a tool and cut right through it? Or is it acceptable for this to be the tabernacle or should their truly be a freestanding, metal tabernacle? Any help would be greatly appreciated! The tabernacle should usually be the only one, be irremovable, be made of solid and inviolable material that is not transparent, and be locked in such a way that the danger of profanation is prevented to the greatest extent possible.[125] Moreover, it is appropriate that before it is put into liturgical use, the tabernacle be blessed according to the rite described in the Roman Ritual.[126]
