Does the Triduum include Easter Vigil Mass?

Hey everyone. I am confused. Is the Easter Vigil Mass a part of the Triduum or isn’t it? Also, which is holier, the Triduum or the Easter Vigil Mass? I am thinking it is the Easter Vigil Mass if indeed the two are separate.

Triduum = “Three days”. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil.

In fact, it is slightly longer than that, according the the General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar:
  1. The Easter triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday.

In fact, the Easter Vigil liturgy begins on Thursday afternoon. Thursday there is no dismissal, we are not dismissed until the end of the Vigil.

So the Triduum makes for one long liturgy.

Easter is the Feast of Feasts, and the greatest of feasts. It is part of the Triduum and it is the pinnacle of the Triduum, the end toward which it moves. To say one Mass is holier than another is not appropriate, but the Easter Vigil is the most solemn and greatest event on the Church’s calendar.

The Easter Vigil is only part of the Triduum. The essential liturgies of the Triduum are these:

Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. This opens the Triduum. Day 1.
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday. Beginning of Day 2.
The Easter Vigil on Saturday night. Beginning of Day 3 and the climax of the Triduum.
The Mass at Dawn on Sunday
The Mass during the day on Sunday
Evening Prayer on Sunday, which closes the Triduum.

So there is no comparison, because one is a subset of the other.
