Does the ubiquitous "Gather" hymnal violate the principles of Vatican II?

I don’t know the literal translation of the Swedish hymn “O Store Gud,” but when the current American text reads “Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee, how great Thou art…,” how can this refer to anyone but God? This is a great hymn of praise, Protestant though it may be, and cannot be put into the same class as Anthem, Gather Us In, or the rest of that narcissistic garbage.
It is both better music and better devotion than Gather Us In, etc. It is however I-centered:

When I in awesome wonder…I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder…Then sings my soul…I wander…I look down from … I think that…I scarce can take it in…And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart…
