Just to mention a few (for I surely do not know enough to list all of the ideas): conservation of matter, conservation of energy, theory of entropy, convertibility of matter into energy, theory of relativity

Do these point to the temporality of the universe?

Do these point to the contingency of the physical universe?

THANKS!!!

I am not a physicist, but IIUC, entropy alone is a mark of the universe’s temporality. If it holds throughout the cosmos (not yet established), then entropy requires that the universe is on a one way path to cooldown.

In fact, what we perceive as time is really entropy. Clocks are driven by entropic physical change. Our own personal sense of time is driven by our breathing (body’s effort to fight entropy), or by the entropy itself cooking off inside our bodies and heads.

I would like to think that the Universe is not so much temporal etc. but merely proceeding ‘in potential’.

" For us believing physicists, the demarcation between past, present and future has merely the significance of but a persistent illusion. "
Einstein
According to relativity time is a dimension ( like height, depth or width). It does not move. If it did move how fast does it move? Seconds per what? Obviously absurd.
John 8:58
Note that Jesus did not say," before Abraham I was." He said,“Before Abraham I am”!
Ephesians 3:18
Note that 4 dimensions are mentioned. Interestingly, when one sees reality from a higher dimension even the insides of objects become visible. For example we three dimensional creatures would see the inside of a 2 dimensional safe.
" The kingdom of God is spread out upon the earth and men see it not"
Gospel of Thomas 113
Note that St. Augustine agreed with Einstein. Augustine said that before creation there was no time because God created time!

Time ends at a certain point.

The universe God only knows 🤷

Although, in a certain sense it may be said that time ends at a certain point, I think this can easily lead to an unsuccessful understanding of the matter as it does not seemingly point in the direction of the philosophy of what is commonly called the “mode of succession” inasmuch as there will always be a 'before and an ‘after’.

You may find it interesting to read Newman’s “Dream of Gerontius” in his profound passage where ‘The Angel speaks to the Soul after death’. Another source of intrest is contained within the writings of Abbot Vonier OSB; specifically to quote him as follows:-

“Our masters do not see any psychological impossibility in a mind having one eternal act, whilst having concurrently many successive acts of a lower order, subject to the rules of ordinary mind-time”

God Bless.

Sometimes wiki does not transfer well. Simply, click on that last site and then click on the first site you see.

Whoa!
That is very helpful

Thank you
(now I’m wondering why St. Jerome REALLY had a skull next to him)

God bless You

The skull was used by many saints to keep them reminded that they were going to die, and their heads would one day be in that condition.

There are often said to be seven arrows of time:

  • *]The thermodynamic arrow of time
    *]The cosmological arrow of time
    *]The radiative arrow of time
    *]The causal arrow of time
*]The particle physics (weak) arrow of time
    *]The quantum arrow of time
    *]The psychological/perceptual arrow of time
