Does the "X" mean homosexual?

How bizarre. I would say that I no more believe this than that the moon is made of green cheese.
 It’s as hard to believe as the Moon being made of Green Cheese? Give me a break. Unnecessary over-the-top rhetoric.

The suggestion is not that far-fetched. Any reasonable person (who has seen the movies and has reasonably good analysis skills) should be able to see where I’m coming from. Assuming, of course, that they are not blinded by their fan boy obsession with this movie.

Lame reponse. The claims made by “Elvis” web sites can be easily disproven. Not so for what I posted.

Stereotyping people because they suggested something negative about a movie you like is even worse.

These forums are for public discusson and suggesting ideas. At least have the decency to restrain your fanboy tendencies and not make dumb accusatons. I’ve seen all four movies and I’ve discussed the gay themes in it with a friend of mine who is a homsexual.
You amuse me:)

Criticizing someone for being a ‘fanboy’ after getting into a tiff over the *hidden gay themes *within a superhero movie. Obviously you have a deep appreciation for irony;)

I think it’s in the third movie (Last Stand). There is a young guy with wings crying in the bathroom because his father won’t accept him.
Actually there are two Angels who are members of the X-Men.

The first Angel (later known as Archangel) Warren Worthington III was known as Angel because of his giant birdlike wings. While the second Angel (who was a Black woman) had insectlike wings and Angel was her actual birth name.

Yes, I am kind of a fanboy:D

Oh I can see where your coming from.

You even have a tiny silver of a point.
After all, Blacks are no longer the despised minority that they once were in the United States, but the gay movement is in many ways retracing the steps of the Civil Rights movement from the 1960s and 70s.

However, you managed to state your opinion in such an arrogant yet obviously ignorant way that I felt compelled to respond.

I think you may want to re-read the post of mine you were responding to. I clearly stated that I thought the X-Men films are “a series of poorly made action films…Big explosions, the same tired sex jokes, and pathetic one-liners make up more of these films than any political statements. These films are just as worthless as the Rambo or Die Hard movies.” So I obviously don’t like them much, let alone qualifying as a fan boy (though that last comment may have only been directed at AngryAtheist, I wasn’t sure though since you responded to quotes made by both of us in your post).

As for my statement, “By the way, not all of us on the CAF site are crazy right-wingers who confuse the Republican Party with the Catholic Church.” how is this stereotyping? I didn’t say you were such a person, nor did I say everyone or even most people on CAF fit this description. I was simply responding to a statement AngryAtheist made concerning how many of the discussion threads on CAF have a distinctly politically conservative leaning to them. I was trying to disprove any stereotypes or generalizations by pointing out that not everyone on these forums fits this description. Me for instance, who would sooner join a club that’s looking for Elvis or believes the moon is made of green cheese than join the Republican Party. 😛

For the record, Rambo 1-3 were excellent and trump most of today’s action films. The X refers to the X gene that mutants have that give them super special powers. Gay inferences were really not a part of mainstream comics at all until we all began visiting the museum of tolerance in the late 80s/90s.

Was Thor any good? I know that they are trying to make a lot of the Avenger characters so that they can easily make an Avenger movie with an easier exposition rather than have every character become a superhero and then have them join the Avengers.

I never saw Wolverine either…

Oh, I don’t know about that. People were fretting about that very thing back in the 1950s, particularly (but not limited to) the Batman comics.

A psychiatrist by the the name of Fredric Wertham wrote a book called Seduction of the Innocent which caused such a stir it led to an investigation by the US Congress and the creation of a comic book industry group which promoted a code of self-censorship (as was done in movies and television.)

Are you talking about Thor the movie? Yeah it was pretty cool. 😛
Then again, I’m not sure I’m one to give an assessment as I also liked the movie Ghost Rider.

quickly hides before Jharek comes in >_<;;;

Things come to a head in the third and latest movie, though Singer is no longer in the director’s chair. A major plot point is that a formula is invented that can cure people of mutancy. The very idea that the condition needs to be cured is outrageous to most (though not all) of the characters, heroes and villains alike. The parallel to ex-gay ministries is all too obvious, and the likes of McKellen have been explicit about the connection. “[The producers] will tell you one of the demographics that X-Men appeals to is young gays… There are enough people in this world who think that the answer to the ‘problem’ of being gay is to be ‘cured’ of your abnormality.”
No offense but if you’re implying a concept like this is some subliminal tactic by the gay community then you might need to invest more points in your literary analysis skills.

Are you aware that the New Atheists also have a similar attitude towards religion and religious believers? That faith is a mind disease that needs to be cured by their obnoxious (and may I say laughably fallible) version of ‘reason’? What about the oppression of native peoples during the age of imperial colonialism?

I finally got a day off that I can go to the movies! X-men first class here I come. I’ll make sure to check if it’s as homosexual as all the other X-men movies! 😉

… Hello thread, thank you for reminding me why I avoid this site as of late. 😉

All I know is that Wolverine 30-second cameo might have been the best part of the new movie. 😛
The best part of the movie is a very gratuitous f-bomb that cost the movie a PG rating and made it unsuitable for young kids? Oooooooo-kaaaaayyyy… 😉

It was definitely the funniest part of the movie :D.

And for the record, I can name probably a dozen other reasons that kids shouldn’t be watching this movie. If Star Wars and Indiana Jones got PG-13 ratings, this one definitely deserved one too.

I am an extremely reasonable person and I do not see it, nor am I a “fan boy”. For a person that criticizes rhetoric, you sure do not mind engaging in it, not to mention a generous amount of insults. Have you every even glanced at the rules and the need for charity here? I will report the next breach.

Thanks for your opinion guys. Glad it stayed civilized and reasonable.

In early Science Fiction stories, “X” generally referred to things that were unclassified or unknown (For example “Planet X” or the more modern “X-files” ).

Anything that is unclassified by proxy could easily be misunderstood and/or become an object of fear. The other thing about the designation of being unclassified “X” is that a person can apply whatever meaning they want to it.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet.

A simple Google search will also bring up numerous sites claiming Elvis is alive or that the Moon Landing was a fake.
And, I learned on this forum that Elvis was possessed by the Devil. It’s all about his hip gyrations, don’tcha know…

:whacky:
