Does this count as cohabitation?

Is it sinful for a male to sleep over a female friend’s apartment for the night, provided that they both sleep in different rooms? I asked my priest this question the other day in confession and he said that it was perfectly okay.

I have slept over at a female friend’s (and her family’s) house a couple times when I have had cause to be in her city and not my own. Sometimes there is danger of scandal, but frankly in my circle of friends, the presumption is that you are not engaging in sexual relations with one to whom you are not married.

If your confessor said it was ok, there is no need to ask us! 🙂

Just make darn well sure that whoever knows, knows you two aren’t sleeping together. Don’t want there to be scandal

But don’t protest too much, otherwise people will think you’re hiding something!

But seriously, YOU know you’re not indulging yourself in ‘that way’ and your confessor says it’s ok. If anyone persists in casting aspersions, then surely they’re the ones bearing false witness?

oh, alright. so it sounds like this would be okay? that’s good

“Scandal”: things that get busybodies’ tongues wagging when they should be minding their own business.

I always had trouble with this concept. The innocent party is sinning, and the sinning party (those who are sticking their noses into the affairs of others) is innocent.

To me, “scandal” should be limited to verifiable facts, not speculation and innuendo.

Uh, hold on a minute, everyone.

pcg2, weren’t you at the center of some threads a few months ago, inquiring into whether it was acceptable for you to sleep on the floor of the college dorm room your girlfriend, or quasi-girlfriend, shared with other suitemates?

If I’m totally off-base, or confusing you with someone else, I apologize.

But if I’m not – and I’m sure I’m right about this – let me ask: what is it with you and staying in the residences – dorm rooms, apartments, etc., whatever – of women you’re not married to?

I will give the same answer now I posted then: You sleep in your residence. She (whoever “she” is, is irrelevant, so long as it’s not your wife) sleeps in HER residence. Nuff said. Anything else is playing married, and posting various ways to figure out how to make it acceptable to sleep at “her” residence appears to be, in my opinion, a way to get people, or a confessor, to tell you it’s okay. Why? Because it’s not "okay. Okay? It’s immature. It’s a near occasion of sin. It gives scandal since people will assume. Isn’t that enough?
