Just some background: I fasted on Good Friday and, even though it’s recommended you continue to fast on Holy Saturday, I had planned on eating normally today since fasting isn’t a requirement. I’m a vegan, so I guess I would still technically be abstaining. Anyhow, I’ve dealt with scrupulosity/OCD in the past, so the thought of going against the Church’s recommendation was generating a lot of anxiety, but I was still planning on eating normally today. (My OCD makes it difficult to judge what’s a “normal” meal/ whether or not two smaller meals add up to a “normal” meal, so when I fast I usually just don’t eat anything. Hence, I was really eager to stop fasting today.)
But early this morning, I had this dream that I lived in a parallel universe, and in this society everyone thought it was Christmas or Easter every day. Now, this society didn’t celebrate Easter/Christmas spiritually-- they just went out and bought the associated secular items (ie plastic fillable eggs on Easter). In fact, this society only believed it was Christmas or Easter every day because companies had “brainwashed” them to think that way through constant, inescapable advertising; by brainwashing people into thinking everyday was Easter/Christmas, the companies hoped to trick people into buying more of their products (such as the plastic fillable eggs).
After a little while in this society, I met a homeless man whom the companies hadn’t bothered to brainwash, since he had no money to spend on plastic eggs anyway. This homeless man explained to me that every day wasn’t really Christmas or Easter, and I, in turn, started explaining this to a small crowd of people. I remember saying something along the lines of “it doesn’t make sense to have Easter three days in a row”. Only then my former priest showed up and said “what about the Easter Triduum?”, and I didn’t know how to respond, since all three days of the Easter Triduum do center on Easter.
So I don’t know if this dream means “every day (ie Holy Saturday) isn’t Easter, so don’t break the fast until it’s actually Easter”? The people in this dystopian society were using their belief that every day was Easter/Christmas as an excuse to buy lots of material goods; now I feel that, by eating today, I’d be treating Holy Saturday like Easter and using that as an excuse to indulge myself with food.
Or is my OCD just making connections that don’t exist???
Thank you!
