Does this early New Testament chart make you question the final Canon?

Actually, I heard the REAL criteria they used to pick the NT Canon was wether the authors actually knew Jesus or not. If they didn’t, then they did not chose the book even if it was inspired. I can’t remember what Fr. I heard this from.

But In my research, I found that INDEED - all the books contained in the NT Canon were authored by people who saw Jesus in the flesh and spoke to him. And yes, all things considered, St. Paul almost certainly was aware of Jesus and very likely saw him in the flesh during his ministry before crucifixion so he also qualifies.

I’m almost certain there is a clue sitting somewhere in the Gospels signifying Paul was present with Jesus. I say this because Paul says he was chosen from his mothers womb.

I imagine it’s Paul who gives a hint pointing back to the Gospels to where he was at the time with Jesus. Hopefully it’s not too convoluted involving his original name and the OT. I hope not. Someone must have already found the connection long ago however.

Mark nor Luke knew Jesus. Mark was originally a follower of Paul and Barnabus, eventually became a follower of Peter. Luke was a follower of Paul.

Seems some books not in the final Canon were cited as scripture by just as many early Christians as were books which did make the Canon. I have to be honest, and maybe it’s heretical but I do question it at times. I sometimes wonder why say 2 Peter made the Canon yet the Shepherd of Hermas did not. Also the Apocalypse of Peter, the Didache, 1 Clement, and the Epistle of Barnabas I often think should have been included. They aren’t heretical by any means.
It dos not matter if they are not heretical. They are not inspired.
The Church through the guidance of the Holy Spirit determined what books were inspired.

Well remember, none of those individuals are infallible. We believe the Canon was decided on by councils inspired by the Holy Spirit and who would know better?

Jerome translated the Vulgate and he questioned 7 OT books. But while he had his opinion he was not charged with determining the matter.
