Does this make me bear false witness?

If I am with my mother who is using a card she obtained from my aunt, which is supposed to be for residents of the estates and she uses it for a discount and free entrance into the club. If I am there when she uses the card, and didn’t point out to the other people that it she isn’t a resident, then did I bear false witness? But I think it’s okay for me to go along right? I pay the guest fee and after all, my aunt really is a resident so I am a legitimate guest.

I suggest you get some spiritual counseling from your pastor. This and other posts seem to point towards scrupulosity.

Scruples are a good thing, especially when they lead one to penitence for sin.

The subterfuge discussed is the original post is certainly a lie, and the original poster should not be encouraged to rationalize it away.

Rationalizing away guilt over sin by calling it scrupulously (As of that were a bad thing) will not change the sinful nature of the underlying act.

have you any idea of the meaning of scrupulosity ? also reading the post i can’t see the subterfuge.‘my aunt really is a resident so I am a legitimate guest’

I am well aware that the concept of excessive scrupulosity is frequently used to rationalize commonplace sinful behavior. The subterfuge taking place is that a card belonging to another person is being used to create a false impression in order to obtain a discount. Not exactly a federal case but certainly a lie of omission.

If the discount cannot be obtained by honestly admitting who is present and who the card belongs to then it should not be obtained at all. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole ten percent discount and lose his soul?

there isn’t ‘excessive scrupulosity’,there is scrupulosity period.

It is ironic that you were asking me if I knew the meaning of the word since it is apparent that you do not. Please consult a dictionary before we discuss this any further.

But really, anyone walking in pays the guest fee, it is the highest payment. I don’t obtain any discount, my mom did. But should I only swim when my aunt is there? Because I thought the club meant guests of residents. I have a relation. But I guess at that moment I am not really because my aunt isn’t present?

I had no idea this wasn’t a valid reason. I thought it was. I had paranoia some years ago so i assumed everything I thought to be right is irrational because of the reaction my friends and family give me. My mom also told me not to call her mom in front of the receptionists. I dont know if I should talk or not.

It is possible you come from a family that believes deception is a good thing, so long as it gets them money. They are wrong. You do not need to think you are irrational. It **is **wrong to deceive, lie, cheat, etc. It is even worse to force a young child into a deception. I was a victim of this as a child. It is very painful to the child. I found it very hard to deal with my parents’ disgust with my desire to be honest. It wasn’t until I was much, much older that I could escape my fear of their disgust.

Is it the rule of the club that a friend of a member can attend without the member present? If so, you can attend and pay the guest fee. But if you are not supposed to be there without your aunt present, I would not go to the club unless your aunt goes too.

Go shopping with your mother instead, perhaps. 🙂 Also, is it possible that your aunt is unhappy with the card situation, as are you? I ask because it could be the case that there are others in your family who are uncomfortable with the deception that goes on in your family, but they feel alone in their discomfort and need support. You might want to discuss your scenario with your priest, so that your mind can come to some peace. I know I was so miserable over my family and could have used some loving support on the issue. But maybe your situation is not like mine very much.

I am assuming you are an adult, and therefore free in your movements in my advice here.
