This is by James White, his little response to Tim Staples’ defense of the dogma. Or doctrine. Whatever it is.
So, his basic logic is that Jesus used figurative language when he said things like I am the Door, or I am the Vine… But I like Staples’ point that nobody objected, saying: How can this man be made of wood? Apparently, White stands firm saying that the context says Jesus was speaking symbolically because He said in John 6:35- He who comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall not thirst… as well as in 6:63- It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh profits nothing, the words I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life.
Doesn’t that verse indicate a need to separate oneself from carnal understanding?
White also claims that Jesus only clarified His points to His disciples, not to random people. But what about Nicodemus in John 3? The Lord clarified after he spoke of being born again to mean that we need to be born of water and the Spirit. Or the woman at the well? Well, she got it right off the bat that He was speaking symbolically, not literally.
White seems to skip over the major point in Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, such as how Paul warns of eating and drinking Judgement to oneself, calling it absurd to say that we can eat and drink Judgement to ourselves, saying that the verse before that says that as often as we eat and drink, we proclaim the Lord’s Death until He comes again.
