Does watching a video of the rosary equal saying the rosary?

If I watch Mother Angelia say the rosary (which they show on EWTN sometimes) and mentally go along with it without saying it outloud, have I said the rosary? And can i offer up this prayer as though I had verbally said it?

The reason i would like to do it this way is I would like to watch the video while exercising but it can be difficult to verbally say the prayers when breathing heavy while exercising.

Pope St JPII prayed while doing laps in the swimming pool.
 
I say no! Heck, I’m sometimes guilty of speedpraying my way through the rosary, but at least I pray it! Sounds like rosary - the couch potato version to be critical…😉

That said, you don’t need to literally speak it, if you want to do it whilst physically exercising. I think saying it in your head without the video would be more properly praying than having a video saying it for you - that’s probably what JPII did in the swimming example 👍

And although I don’t see it as praying, I do commend it as VIRTUOUS that you have prayers in the background rather than “Now that’s what I call music 97” while you do your crunches or whatever :rolleyes:
 
Praying silently along with the video is fine. Having a rosary in hands helps. I would say its not like trying to say watching a football game is the same as playing football…
 
If his will is directed towards the act, then it is prayer. Lips, knees, hands, etc., are all useful instruments in prayer but not necessary instruments.

Having a rosary playing on the TV as white noise in the background would of course not be prayer.

This sounds like a very good practice you have started doing. Please be encouraged to continue it. This will make Our Lady very happy & give you many graces.

From the closing prayer of the Rosary:
“O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Peasants at work harvesting potatoes stop for the Angelus prayer at noon. This was done three times a day. In a time when our thoughts were more towards heaven.

I personally can not focus my prayer when focusing on exercising. But then again there are those whose entire day of work is achieved through constant prayer 🙂 like the Jesus prayer.
