Does wearing a cross protect me from evil?

I find it interesting that St. Teresa was able to do this but Padre Pio was not. Anyone have any possible insights into why?

Demons can only attack us if God permits it. In the case of Padre Pio, the demons may have been another cross for him to bear and offer up for the salvation of souls.

St. John Vianney had a similar problem; Satan pestered him for 35 years.

Both items are a good idea. I don’t know much about the St. Benedict Crucifix, but I know the medal has a prayer of exorcism on it. More info on the medal here.
 
I recently had my priest to my house to bless the rooms. Oh boy what an experience. This you should do. And from now on I am going to do this once a year. Yes pray to St. Benedict after all he is the saint (namesake)(chosen) of our holy Father now. Use holy water in your home as some of the fear may be coming from you, your own personal struggles. Make and say the sign sprinkle, over your computer chair and sprinkle your pillow. Blessings
 
Put A St. Benedict medal over every door, asking him to keep the devil out of your home.
 
reff. you may be under attack as the devil cannot stand the fact that you are coming home to the one true Church. Speak to a trusted, orthodox (small “o”) priest about the feelings you sometimes have of a presence of evil. He can pray for you and advise you.

I agree with the others on the frequent use of sacramentals - holy water, blessed salt, blessed holy items such as pictures, statues and crucifixes, candles blessed at Candlemass, house blessing each year (all there to help and support your faith). And prayers such as a daily rosary, prayer to your Gaurdian Angel and the St Michael’s prayer.

As a convert you may like to look into each of these devotions one by one and learn the meaning behind them. It can be a little strange and overwhelming coming into the Catholic faith with all of it’s quirks and wonders. (I’m a convert too. 🙂 )

Also, the holy water, salt etc needs to be blessed properly with the proper prayers of exorcism said over it, not just a sign of the cross like some priests unfortunately do these days.

My confessor told me that besides from the cross of St. Benedict, you can wear the miraculous medal for protection and special graces.

Have your medal blessed by a priest and let him wear it around your neck and always say the invocation “Oh Mary concieved without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee” plus the three Hail Marys.

I have a bottle of holy water at home how would I go about blessing my room with it, would I need to do an exorcism?
 
The devil wants you, not your room, don’t give into being overly scared of him. Pray, go to church, live a good life, follow the teachings of the Church, wear a scapular and you will be just great. Talk to a really good priest. Just sort of ignore it, and when you feel extra – scared, frightened, threatened-- then just say a Hail Mary or Guardian Angel prayer.

That is a job for a priest when he is blessing the whole house. You can also just lightly sprinkle a little of the water around the room as you say some prayers.

And dip your finger in and bless yourself with the sign of the cross saying “By this holy water and by Thy Precious Blood, wash me of my sin, Oh Lord.”
 
Use of holy water is always good. Sprinkle some around the house and be sure to make the Sign of the Cross with it, often. It should not to be used in a superstitious way… but in a reverent, prayerful manner. Hope this helps. God bless. 🙂

I also would highly recommend this! The prayers labeled on the medal are amazing ways to combat evil.

and it isn’t necessary but if you can find a Benedictine to bless it - that’s amazing too! (If only for the sheer excitement you see on the dear Benedictine’s face)
