Does wedding mass at Saturday 5:00pm fulfill Sunday obligation? Just checking because we didn’t stick with the usually Sunday readings.

Not necessary. That’s laying additional burdens beyond what the Church requires.

Holy Mass on Saturday Evening valid for sunday obligation (feast of christ king) Liturgy and Sacraments
The obligation may be fulfilled on the day of precept or the evening of the previous day. The prayers and readings used don’t matter. If you went to a wedding Mass at 5 pm on a Saturday, you would have fulfilled your obligation. -Fr ACEGC

Yes, it is ok, but that was not the question asked and going to a second Mass to fulfill one’s obligation is not necessary

Sure, it’s ok! But going above and beyond doesn’t change the fact that the obligation was fulfilled with the first Mass. Which was the question.

It is. But the question here was does it fulfill the obligation, and it does.

That is one of those Catholic Urban Myths that just will not die 🙂 Attending Mass counts (some weddings are simple Catholic weddings without a Mass). It counts.

How can a service without a mass count?
That’s like saying if I read the readings for the day I don’t have to go to mass.

I have encountered people who do not understand that there is such a thing as liturgies inside a Catholic parish with readings and candles and vestments that are not a Mass. Attending one of those liturgies would not fulfill one’s obligation.

My statement was “attending Mass counts”. Perhaps I should have bolded the word Mass?

It’s my understanding the Saturday mass must be a ‘Vigil Mass’. If not, it does not count as attending on Sunday.

Ah, I see his(her?) confusion, now. Yes, you’re right, of course… folks aren’t always aware (or attentive) to the nuances.
