We don’t stop at coffee.

If noone signed up for that weeks’s social, there’s enou day-old Starbucks stuff to go with the coffee (which, unfortunately, is folgers:D)

Usually, someone sponsors, and brings something–pasta, meatloaf, donuts (me:)), sausage, soup, whatever. A few times a year, we have Pastor’s Potluck, at which Father generally does a main course (generally excellent!).

We don’t have a social after Christmas liturgy–but formPascha (Easter), we’re there for hip ours, having brought plenty of food to be blessed, much of which is shared.

actually, I’ve never even visited a Byzantine parish that not only had a social, but wasn’t very forward in inviting visitors. (for thT matter, priests usually recognize you after a single visit months before).

We also keep,a certain percentage of those warmly welcomed visitors 😃

I don’t know about Byzantine, but when I visited an Orthodox church, we didn’t only have coffee and donuts. We had potatoes, chicken, cake and all sorts of other things. 👍

Did the early Christians not eat when they got together? Did they not fellowship?

One thing that has changed is that the Catholics who supposedly don’t need fellowship are flocking to Protestant churches.🤷
Well, the early Christians weren’t New Englanders - also known as the “frozen chosen.” Actually chatting with people here is culturally discouraged.

And more seriously, as far as your second statement: my experience is just the opposite. With an Assembly of God “church” a few hundred yards down the street from our parish, it’s those who ARE after “fellowship” that go there; we “frozen chosen” remain behind and skulk out of the parking lot as fast as we can, preferably without saying hello to anyone. To do otherwise would be “against the ways.”

Perhaps things would be different if we were all facing threats of the Colosseum together . . . .

My Parish has Donuts (and milk and Orange juice) on the first Sunday of the month after the 9:15 Latin Mass which is the one attend and I’m also in their choir. I always stay. Other than that My Priest usually has Receptions/Socials every now and then. Sometimes for no special occasion and then for Easter, Christmas, etc. My Priest LOVES to have the Paish get together ad socalize and just have fun and eat lol. In CCD We’ve has like 3 Parties so far. He also enjoys the CCD Classes getting together for fellowship. My Priest really has a heart of gold (and did i mention if we could make him the patron Saint of anything it would have to be hugs. He hugs EVERYBODY :D) God bless ya’ll

At my Byzantine Catholic parish, at a minimum we have coffee and donuts, or some sort of pastry every Sunday. However, generally, we have a bit more than that, and often a full meal.

We do, and we recently had a new area built so we can have an even bigger space to hold it in.

Yes, our local OF parish has a coffee.dessert hour after Sunday Mass and we do the same when we have our EF Mass. Its a great chance for like-minded folks to sit and chat.
Well, that’s why we don’t go in our OF parish. No “like-minded folks”. As it is, they were ready to run our pastor out of town for refusing to wash the feet of women on Holy Thursday. I won’t even mention the reaction to the suggestion that a Crucifix might be appropriate to hang up in a Catholic Church. But I digress.

Speaking of NYC bagels, there are days I would do almost anything just so I could taste one again. Tell me, for those of you here that are familiar with Manhattan, is E-son Bagels still around at 21st and First?
