Yes, we have a pro-life committee, but there’s only a few people on it. We get others to help out with running events through. When we were the most active, we held a monthly Holy Hour for Life, and had a 'coffee and snacks time afterwards where we would hold a discussion on a particular life issue. We would invite guest speakers, but most of the time it would be a Priest or myself doing the presentation. We also did a “Spiritual Adoption”, where we spent a couple of weekends asking people to spiritually adopt a pre-born child in danger of abortion. We had crosses on the wall, which as people adopted a baby, we took down the cross and replaced it with a paper cradle. Our goal was to have as many babies adopted that are typically aborted per day in NJ. We made it just pass our goal. We printed info about the baby’s development and weekly prayers for the spiritually adopted children, as well as had them included in the Prayer of the Faithful. (The congregation really became involved and would ask about their child, IF the Deacon forgot to include them in the Prayer of the Faithful for that week.)
We ended the nine months with a baby shower for a Home for Unwed moms.
We also held one day retreats, where we invited people from all over the diocese. We invited the Rosary Guild, Women’s group and Knights to provide refreshments, as well as local restaurants and bakeries.
We spoke on issues ‘in the news’ at the end of Mass. (The talks on Embryonic Stem Cells, really changed people’s minds and helped them to understand why they are wrong in every sense.)
We did all of this with just 2 Committee members, but we had a pro-life Priest, and were able to solicit help from other groups in the parish. Our new Priest, well needs prayers, but we’ll be active again soon.
