Does your parish priest wear his collar in public?

Our priest of one year is under forty and quite orthodox (at least relative to many other priests I’ve known).

I’ve often seen him in clerics, even when he came to our house for dinner. He’s the only priest we’ve had over who wore his collar. He is the first priest I’ve EVER seen wear a cassock.

Most of the time, our priests are in military dress, though, when they’re at the parish during the week.

I recently took a liturgy program, during which I met several priests. Some were teachers, some students. One got quite distressed when I called him ‘Father’. None EVER wore clerics in the three year program. You gotta wonder what’s up with that. These men were not identified to us at any time as priests, except for the one who celebrated mass on the Sunday when classes were in session.

A deacon I know has consecrated himself to the Sacred Heart and always wears a red robe. He has had many people come to him to talk. What a ministry.

Every time I have seen our priest he has on his collar. He wears a black shirt and black slacks. I like seening priests wearing their clerics out in public. I realize that they need time off as well, but like someone said in a previous reply, it’s a vocation, not a 9-5 job. God Bless all of our priests! Keep them holy!:gopray:
 
Always. As a matter of fact, one of our younger priests has a scar on the back of his head related to this issue. One day he was travelling in the city ( Philadelphia ) and a group of young men ( they don’t deserve to be called that ) approached him. They told him to take off his " dress " or they would proceed to kick his back end. He refused and they proceeded to try what they had intended ( just bullies you know, with nothing better to do than harass someone ). He ended up with some cuts on the back of his head but remained dressed as he came. He is a mellow person and I’m sure it was hard to react in this way ( even though it was clearly self defense ). He just felt so strongly that this was a part of his individual witness. ( Too bad they didn’t just ask him why he was wearing those kind of clothes - he would have been more than glad to stop and talk to them…)
 
Our pastor has been with us for about sixteen years…I am sitting here trying to remember if I have every seen him in his clerics…Maybe once, but am not sure of that.
 
Never mind about wearing the collar in public, some of the priests around here don’t even wear the collar when celebrating Mass!
 
The priest in my parent’s parish wears it when he wants, I guess,

In my parish both the priests wear it outside the grounds–like going to dinner. During the winter they wore it more under their sweaters…now that its summer they wear button shirts without priest collars.

But as a Sister explained that her habit is part of her vocation whereas a priest’s vocation was not so dependant on what he wears outside in public.
 
My priest doesn’t even wear his collar while saying Mass. I think that’s kinda weird…
 
I hardly ever see the local priest (just one) outside of church so I don’t know. The preist who preceeded him would wear sweatshirts outside of mass occasionally. He came to close up the church after adoration like that and for some reason it creeped me out. He wasn’t “Father” anymore, just some guy.
