Does your parish still use altar bells?

I love the use of the altar bells because it is at the time they are rung that the Eucharist becomes the True Body and True Blood of Christ. I love hearing them because I know of the great mystery underway. I wish all parishes used them. One parish by my house uses them but the one I go to which is just a little farther doesn’t use them.

And pardon my immense ignorance (newbie guest! 😃 ); I thought all Catholic Churches did. Every single one…Well, of the CC replies, I shall find out…
 
I love them, too! And even when I’m attending a parish that doesn’t use them, I still “hear” them in my head. 🙂
 
Our parish does not use altar bells or insense. Our pastor at our parish keeps the church “simple” if you will. Sometimes I feel/wish our priest would educate and or prepare himself for things better than he does. For instance when I was baptised(I went through RCIA) it came time for the second anointing with sacred Chrism and he looked at his binder with the baptismal rite info in it as if he was confused then looked up at me and asked if I knew if the second anointing was to happen just on the head or on the head and breast. He had no clue, but luckily the director of religious education was present and knew. Another time his microphone turned off because the batteries died and we had to wait for him to change them, though I suppose he may have forgotten to change them. I sure hope that medically he is okay and doesn’t have Alzheimer’s or something because a lot of times in the middle of mass he will just blank during things like consecration.
 
My grade school used them while I was there about two years ago. They were slightly old school.
 
We didn’t use them for years and I was blessed to take over the altar server program last month. Guess what the first thing I did was? Brought back the bells. 😃

Yes! I wholeheartedly agree. It’s a mystical moment and the bells emphasize that.

🙂 I’ve always associated the bells with “old school” parishes (I’ve only known the post-Vatican II church). I was blown away when I attended a parish last weekend that I assumed was quite modern and as I was kneeling, there were the bells. I couldn’t hide the huge smile that immediately spread over my face.

Oh, dear – I’ll pray for him. We have a priest who just celebrated his jubilee and he has been quite flummoxed by the updated Missal since it came out. Makes me wish I could help him!
 
No, our parish does not use altar bells.

However, our pastor does use lots of incense and he does a beautiful job with the mass.
 
I voted yes because most of the time they do. When the Deacon assists at Mass, he doesn’t ring them. I don’t know why. Perhaps there is a liturgical reason for this that I’m not aware of.
 
Yes. (Well, unless the altar server misses his cue.)

And it is an OF Mass.
 
Our parish uses altar bells at all Masses, and sometimes the steeple bells, too. The silence that follows is powerful.
 
We are an OF parish and whenever there are altar servers the bells are used. That generally means they are only used at the Sunday morning Mass.
 
Our abbey does not have altar bells but rings the church bell three gongs at both the consecration of the bread and wine. So I voted “yes”.

It’s an OF Mass (with propers and ordinary in Gregorian chant 😃 )
