Does your parish use ParishPay

I know this is a personal question BUT

You seem to have little understanding of how family budgets are worked out - or for that matter Church finances .

Many of us have very limited funds and have to stretch things as far as we can. For us being able to know that our Contributions go ahead whether we are there or not is a great help.

For many having an envelope which normally has a personal reference number on it ] means that the only person who knows how much YOU give is the Treasurer . All the Passkeepers or ushers know is that you put a contribution envelope in.

Having said that now for the question

Are you in full time education still - or are you in employment ? The answer would explain the fact that you think putting a coupon or some such in the basket is ‘dumb’

I am not employed - and I am still in school (although it is summer now). I do think that putting coupons into the basket is dumb, however.

Someday when you have a three of four year old child who likes to put the envelope in the basket, it might not feel so ‘dumb’. You think they are cute [and the ushers will just hope they hurry up and pass along the basket].

As a young and devout catholic, I am sure that you will support your parish and perhaps currently do.

At my parish, they even have envelopes in the vestibule just for the kids…they can grab one before Mass and put a prayer, a good deed, or a portion of there allowance money…whatever they have to offer to Jesus…

The coupon is just a symbol of that offering sent through the mail…I am not sure if we will use them or not…as I said I have been using automatic bill pay to make monthly contributions for a long time now…I am just converting over to the ParishPay as that is an option that was not available before…
 
I am still interested in first hand experience with the ParishPay system…

My daughter is having number 3 this fall. I love my grandkids alot!

Just think, you could even end up with a priest in the family…

I am hoping for a priestly vocation for my grandson…he’s nearly 10. I tell him he can be whatever he wants but it is important to discern if God is calling him to the priesthood…

Somedays he wants to be a policeman or an ATM support person [thats what his dad is]. Last year he thought he might like to be a religious benedictine monk [we went to evening prayer and a dinner at Mt Angel Abbey]. He thought that might be real cool. He really liked evening prayer with the monks! We both had baked alaska for the first time at dinner…we had a great evening!

No its a flaming ice - cream cake dessert.

My grandson really loved it and I thought it was very good…

The monk at our table informed us that they did not eat that well every day! It was a special thank you dinner for a building committee. My husband was on it but could not attend the dinner…I took my grandson in his place…I thought it would be fun for him to pray with the monks, get dressed up in a suit and eat a nice dinner. It turned out to be a real formal affair. He did very well for a 9 year old and the only child there. He was getting a little anxious after the dinner but was glad we stayed for dessert…

That’s cool. I was joking because I honestly didn’t know what a baked Alaska was 😃

Really nice that the monks put it on as well. I thought it was something you did as a family afterwards - not something hosted by the Monks.

The Man In Charge has had it explained to him. I made sure to use little words, and watched for that tell-tale sign of glazed eyeballs while I did it.🤓

He is fine with it. He understands it. He agrees it would be an excellent way to increase regular income to the parish.

He just does not have the Clout (you are chicago, after all, so you know why Clout has a capital c). He has been filling larger shoes than his own for ten years, living in the shadow of a legend when he should have been developing his own tactics, and does not know how to use his chinaman and fellas to Clout the office manager and secretary.

I ran into the very situation in question when I tried to make an early payment on tuition via online banking. I was called and asking why I was donating so much money to the parish. I had the reason for check printed right on it.

And yes, I understand about a lack of computer literate pastors. We run two web sites at our parish, one for the school and one for the church. The school one has its own domain name, is updated on a continual basis, has links, is scaled properly for download, and is up for an award. It’ll take you anywhere from Market Day to Manna without missing a beat. The parish one is hardly ever updated, does not have its own domain name (it uses a service through the bulletin), and tried to take the school domain name.

This is classic! 😃

Anyway, the problem you note is also often a difficulty, I find. Too loyal of pastors who let their (sometimes either incopetant or just with overarching control) staff run them.

Actually, its smart. why? because is an evironmentally friendly idea and alternative to using paper. less paper products used, the more trees are saved, and cuts the cost of the parish to pay for using paper for envelopes.
 
No our does not. But for the last year my husband pays his bills online. He also sends a check every week online to our Church. He loves it! It saves on envelopes and we don’t have to worry about it.

He is competent. He is just too darn nice sometimes, and “they” are overarching in their matters of control. He wanted a copy of a bill once, and went to the file cabinet to find it. When “they” found him finding files in the parish file cabinet, “they” had a cow at him, and again cowed him at the same time.

Collection is a funny thing.

About 6 years ago, I stood at the back of the church at Easter mass…so that others could sit (lots of people who usually didn’t show up!). I had our collection envelope – my wife was left without a donation…

The usher collecting envelopes looked at my wife (he did not recognize her) and said out loud: “Taking a free ride?”

We go to church every week. We, apparently, attended a different mass from this usher. My wife was so embarrassed that I dare not suggest automotic payment!
 
That is totally inappropriate. There are families who mail donations in or as in your case are not together for some reason. I would mention that incident to the pastor because that usher might say something like that to another person who would use that as the excuse (as someone I know did) to not attend Mass, thinking that the church is only interested in money.

How does this work, that you guys can send the check online? Is it a part of parish pay? Did you have to get the bank information from your pastor?
 
Our parish uses the envelopes as a means of tracking who supports the parish and attends regularly as a means of who qualifies for in parish rates at the school among other things. So if you did use parish pay the coupons they provide would be usefull.

They would also have online access and be able to print out who gave through ParishPay, making it superfast to get those tax acknowledgements out in January, both for charitable gifts as well as parents who need to know how much tuition was paid for various reasons.

The coupons would be great for attendance purposes, though…or we could all go back to the days of the social card and drop one in the basket each week.
