Does your patron saint make you feel happy?

The saint i have chosen is Saint Philomena, and I feel happy everytime I ask for her intercession, and even looking at a nice
painted picture of her warms the heart. I feel really priviledged to
have her as my patron saint. I just wish I had a Saint Philomena
rosary, or chaplet! I do have a lovely relic medal! Does your patron saint make your heart happy? Do you feel joy when you look at a picture of him/her? Iam only wondering. Thanks for your replies.

My patrons are St. Peter and St. John Crysostom. I supposed the “Golden mouth” is incentive to watch what I say. I probably do not invoke S. Peter’s heavenly assistance as often as I should. I probably have a greater devotion to the holy angels.

But I always feel happy when reciting the prayers “Hail Holy Queen” or “We fly to Thy patronage”. Don’t know why, I just feel happy.

My grandmother (now deceased) also had a devotion to St. Philomena and named all her children including my mother after her. A huge black and white potrait of St. Philomena hung in her hall, but was sent ot the room and replaced by OL Perpetual Succour when St. Philomena was removed from the calendar. I have a prayerbook with a litany and chaplet and a novena to St. Philomena- do you know of those?

No, but I plan on getting myself a chaplet of Saint Philomena soon.

Happiness is a persons own responsibility. Nothing outside of us makes us happy or unhappy. Happiness is a state of being. It is not a fluctuating emotional rollercoaster of continued hills and valleys. Being happy shows ones security in who he is and his stance with the universe and his Creator. I understand that my post seems odd, but think about what I say and what you are saying here. The focus is on the word “makes.”

If anything outside of us is responsible for our happiness this negates free will. We have free will. God does not make people do or feel anything, we do it ourselves by free will.

Does knowing and worshipping God contribute to ones happiness? Yes. Can one know and worship God and not be happy? Yes.

Think how you (collective “you”) finish this statement:

I feel love most when _________________________________.

If you complete this with an idea that you feel love most when someone else expresses it to you, then it is very possible you could live your whole life and not feel love because you are relying on an external force for your love feelings. However, if you answer this with an idea that you most feel love when you do this or that, then you feel love all the time because you are in control of your own self. This is also true of happiness. Rely on external factors for your happiness and you may never be happy.

I like St. Teresa’s ideas on the “Our Father” prayer. Our Father who art in heaven, she explains, shows us that God is in heaven. Wherever He is, is heaven. Is He in you? Then you are already in heaven. Do not strive for it; simply exist in it. The kingdom of God is within you.

St. Paul explains that he has learned to be content (happy) in all circumstances (cf. 2 Cor. 12:10 and Phil. 4:11). St. Paul learned that happiness is not external.

Be happy, feel love.

As I was born 4 October, my Patron Saint is Saint Francis. Fine with me. And yes, I have his picture (and that of Saint Clair) in my bedroom. Now if I could only walk with the animals, talk with the animals, and have them talk to me…:yup:
